Responsible for the operation of the Shock & Vibration and Highly Accelerated Life Test (HALT) Labs, as well as the maintenance and calibration of equipment in those labs. Responsible for testing Rockwell Automation products. Executes Reliability plans as determined by Quality. Interfaces with Staff from Development Engineering, Marketing, and Quality to assure that the correct testing is being conducted to meet the project needs. In addition to verification testing per Rockwell Automation Specifications, must also conduct investigations into product characteristics to aid in problem solving and cost reductions. Provides recommendations to improve the service to internal customers.
Schedule usage of laboratory related to staffing and equipment. Resolve scheduling conflicts that may arise with the businesses.
Coordinate repair and replacement of faulty equipment in the Shock & Vibration and HALT Labs.
Plan for upgrade or replacement of laboratory equipment and instrumentation
Perform testing in the Shock & Vibration and HALT Labs.
Document and report testing and results to enable full understanding of test conditions, procedures, and results.
Consult in design and application of HALT and S&V Tests on Rockwell Automation products.
Consult on the design and build of fixtures necessary for testing in Shock & Vibration and HALT Labs.
Knowledge of industrial and military shock and vibration requirements and test procedures.
Ability to handle large pieces of test equipment including ability to lift 25-30 lbs.
Support initiatives maintaining compliance or accreditation to ISO/IEC 17025.
Where applicable (i.e. laboratory staff who generate, handle or dispose of hazardous or potentially hazardous waste(s) and laboratory staff who work near, around or have the potential to handle or come into contact with hazardous waste(s)), laboratory staff will appropriately handle, segregate and dispose of all hazardous wastes and potentially hazardous wastes. Hazardous waste duties will be performed in accordance with federal and state regulations, as well as Rockwell Automation Policies and Procedures. Hazardous wastes will be handled by staff only after appropriate training has been completed.
Responsible for designated lab facilities, providing for maintenance, calibration, planning and implementing lab improvements.
Guide technicians assisting in setup / testing to ensure tests are carried out correctly.
Strong verbal and written communication skills needed to schedule testing, advise appropriate test procedures, clarify test requirements, communicate results of work and address scheduling issues.
Prepare formal written summary reports of test results and procedures as required for engineering analysis and review.
Continuously look for ways to improve the science, efficiency, consistency and methodology in laboratory systems and procedures.
Ensures thorough familiarity with company policies and procedures. Appropriately applies policies and procedures in compliance with government laws. Policies and procedures include, but not limited to: Standards of Business Conduct, Intellectual Property, Control Environment, Information Protection, ISO 9000 & 14000, government regulations (e.g. health, safety, quality and environmental), and functional policies published on the Rockwell Automation Information Network.
Bachelors Degree, Mechanical Engineering preferred. Strong background required in both mechanical and electrical engineering principles.
Certificate in Shock & Vibration testing, is desirable.
At least two years of engineering experience in a quality / testing role. At least one year experience in Shock & Vibration Testing and HALT, is desirable. Sound knowledge in applying, maintaining and trouble shooting mechanical / electronic test equipment.
