The Executive Recruiter plays a critical role in the identification, assessment, and selection of top talent for Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. The individual in this position works closely with hiring managers and selection committee members throughout the campus to effectively plan and execute successful leadership recruitment initiatives. The Executive Recruiter influences strategic thinking, the use of the most effective outreach and assessment techniques, awareness of bias and available remedies, and the consideration of a broad and diverse pool of candidates.
To achieve the goal of top quality hires, the Executive Recruiter builds and maintains a broad and deep network of prospective candidates, keeps up on the latest trends in Talent Acquisition across industries, leverages proven practices, and informs and implements strategic Talent Acquisition objectives at Cal Poly in partnership with the Talent Acquisition team and others. To ensure success post-hire, the Executive Recruiter also collaborates closely with the Organizational Development team on any leadership development or other relevant initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications (Staff Only):
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Communication, English, Business, Human Resources, or related field and 5 years' progressively responsible experience as a recruiter, or a combination of education and equivalent years of experience
Demonstrated experience building comprehensive recruitment and sourcing plans inclusive of labor and competitive market reviews
Demonstrated experience reviewing resumes against job requirements, interviewing candidates against qualifications, and advising hiring managers or interview panels/committees on selection decisions
Recent proven success having personally sourced leadership (including C-suite) candidates using networking, social media, events, competitive intelligence/research, sourcing tools, and other programs such as employee referrals, diversity, military, and professional outreach
Experience consulting with hiring managers and interview panels or committees on complex hiring initiatives, compensation/offers, market trends, sourcing challenges, interviewing methods, and recruiting process expectations and accountabilities to achieve successful hiring outcomes
Recent experience using applicant tracking systems and sourcing/networking tools to achieve successful hires
Has recent working knowledge of common recruiting processes, policies, and applicable laws
Has the ability to research the labor and competitive markets, analyze trends, and formulate strategic advice for leaders
Has excellent oral communication skills and can quickly build rapport and assess talent on the phone; writes clearly and compellingly, and is able adjust tone, content, and form as appropriate
Is highly skilled at using and learning software applications, including applicant tracking systems, candidate relationship management systems, social media tools, and MS Office suite products, among others
Possesses excellent sourcing skills and can demonstrate knowledge of current sourcing practices and approaches
Is highly skilled at identifying and assessing talent using multiple methods, including resume reviews, phone screens, writing sample and presentation reviews, and video and in-person interviews; knows and is skilled at using various interview approaches, including technical, behavioral, situational, and others to determine attitude, aptitude, and alignment of prospects and applicants
Is able to perform basic mathematical calculations and to use logical operators, such as if/then statements
Has the ability and desire to work quickly and to get things done; is not afraid to make decisions and act independently
Is able to make good decisions in a timely manner, sometimes with incomplete information and under tight deadlines
Has the ability to manage processes to get things done; knows how to organize activities in the most efficient and effective ways; knows what to measure to achieve the best outcomes and how to measure it; knows how to simplify processes and get more with less

Must be willing to travel and attend training programs off-site for occasional professional development.
Must be able to work additional hours, occasional holidays, and adjust working hours to meet special jobs. May be called back periodically to perform work as needed on an emergency basis.

This position classification has been defined as 'Exempt' and is not subject to the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
Retired CalPERS members selected for this vacancy must request and be approved for reinstatement from retirement prior to the start date. Employment of retired CalPERS members will typically be for 90 days or less and must be for work requiring specialized skills or for a bona fide emergency to prevent stoppage of business.
