The Program Specialist II, under general supervision, performs specialist duties for the Veteran Services Office. The Veterans Services Office is designed to assist current military, veterans, and military dependents transition to the university.
Certify state/federal benefits, reconcile federal tuition received by university, and update all changes in VA once system.
Monitor add/drop, change of majors, balance (tuition/fees) of all certified students. Report adjustments and terminations as required and provide other related information to the United Stated Department of Veteran Affairs and other government entities for benefit payments.
Plans and develops specialized programs such as conferences, seminars, lectures, meetings, and workshops to facilitate program goals and confers with staff on program issues and problems.
Assists in the development of policies, procedures, and guidelines. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of budgets, special reports, and other documents.
Institute programs (Constitution Day, Veterans Day for Family and Friends, training programs) and services to ensure that PVAMU is a military friendly institution. Update VACERT records as needed/file maintenance both computer and paper files.5%
Disseminate information about military and veteran?s educational entitlement programs. Counsel students and parents concerning eligibility and benefits available under various programs at local, state, regional and federal levels. Maintain correspondence with veterans to provide them with latest news on benefits, processes and procedures.
Attends meetings, conferences, and training as necessary.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor?s degree in applicable field.
Two years of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and customer service skills.
Maintains attention to detail and utilizes sound judgment.
