The NYU Tandon School of Engineering seeks an accomplished individual for the position of Director of Industry Partnerships, reporting to the Vice Dean for Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship. The Director of Industry Partnerships will work strategically with the Vice Dean, the Tandon Leadership Team, and the faculty to identify focus areas for research partnerships with industry, connect faculty and industry sponsors, and manage all aspects of the faculty- industry relationships at a high level. The Director must work closely with Tandon faculty, constituents across the university and external partners and agencies, and must be able to communicate effectively, build collegial relationships, and gain trust through expert work and clear management. The Director should create a culture of teamwork and collegiality across all of NYU Tandon and NYU that fosters good communication, respect, and provision of good service, while committing to the process of continuous improvement in the school and the university.
Create a vision and strategy for building meaningful relationships with industry;
Cultivate existing relationships with industry, government, and private foundations that support research;
Identify new industry partners and develop multi-faceted research partnerships with them and our faculty;
Manage all aspects of the faculty-industry relationships;
Work collaboratively to assist faculty across all disciplines in achieving their scholarly goals and in achieving the strategic mission of the research and creative activity enterprise;
Build strong relationships with others, in particular with other Schools and Colleges of NYU as well as NYU’s Global Network through an ability to communicate clearly and persuasively;
Build teams for interdisciplinary research that are relevant and attractive to industrial sponsors;
Required Education: Master's Degree
Preferred Education: A PhD degree in any field of science or engineering is preferred
Required Experience: At least 5 years of experience with progressive leadership responsibility at a major research organization or university, with a focus on research development and support, is required. Record of success in developing and implementing interdisciplinary, collaborative research strategies that lead to increased funding and support from private sector entities; Demonstrated experience in building and cultivating industrial and corporate partnerships; Experience outside of academia (industry research, national laboratories, military, nonprofit research entity, or government research lab) is required;
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Demonstrated pro-active demeanor, takes initiative and displays ability to work independently in completing an extensive portfolio of responsibilities; Ability to multi-task and work well in a demanding outcome-driven environment; Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to follow up frequently and as needed; Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders; Ability to collaborate with multiple partners and navigate varying interests; Demonstrated project management and team management skills. Possess extensive knowledge of and experience with research funding from industry sponsors; Demonstrate a deep knowledge of and experience with faculty research; Conduct himself/herself at the highest levels of personal and professional integrity and ethical standards at all times; Has the ability to coach, lead, develop, and inspire others to achieve their professional best;
Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Must be well versed in quality data collection to ensure adequacy, accuracy and legitimacy of data in NYU systems and be able to strictly follow data privacy and security procedures for data handling and analysis to ensure adherence to legal and institutional standards.
