Cultivate and solicit funds while promoting The University of Akron's mission and the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics.
Responsible for meeting annual fundraising goals - primarily through major gifts.
Report to and works with the Vice President for University Advancement in setting goals/metrics, and implementing donor cultivation and solicitation strategies for assigned portfolio; as well as developing specific athletics annual fund goals and strategies with the Associate Director of Development for Athletics.
Plan implement and manage gift solicitations ($10,000 and above) for donors and donor prospects within assigned portfolio.
Direct cultivation and management of the Z-Fund annual fund program with collaboration of annual fund director.
Plan, organize, and effectively execute select annual golf tournaments, pre-game events, and athletic alumni gatherings, in close association with the Department of Athletics.
Build relationships with donors and donor prospects through regular face-to-face visits, calls, e-mails, and mailings and implements effective moves management strategies within assigned portfolio.
Submit and maintain regular contact and activity reports on all donor-related activities though central development database.
Effectively collaborates with Director of Athletics and head coaches to develop strategies for the successful completion of specific fundraising initiatives and capital projects.
Other duties may be assigned.
Introduce gift planning vehicles, when appropriate, to successfully maintain a donor-centric approach to philanthropy.
Develop major gift proposals for individuals and corporations as per prospect portfolio.
Maintain a winsome and professional relationship with the community and organizations that have an interest in, or provide support to, The University of Akron.
Attend and/or represents the University at community events, alumni/parent events, athletic events, and other special events in assigned areas and on campus.
Requires a relevant Bachelor's Degree
A minimum of 2 years experience in managing, directing and implementing fundraising initiatives.
Excellent oral and written communications skills, good computer skills, ability to work on projects independently as well as within a team and be able to handle multiple tasks at once required.
Direct supervision as a first-line supervisor over exempt staff (and non-exempt staff, if applicable).
Experience in higher education and/or collegiate athletics development is preferred with an understanding of NCAA rules and regulations (four years of sales experience in related fields may be considered).
