You will serve as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist in the Clinical Pathology Department, Microbiology Division of OIC, HEALTHCARE SUPPORT OFFICE. This position is location in a hospital or clinic setting and is responsible for performing and or leading professional clinical laboratory science work supporting detection, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. You will perform all the advanced technical work of a Microbiologist.
You will handle unusual test requests, identifies and resolves inconsistent test results and the occurrence of unusual events and take appropriate action
You will review daily quality assurance data by generating and reviewing statistical data such as Levy-Jennings graphs, quality control logs and pending test lists.
You will recognize and identifies departures from expected results, including shifts, trends, bias and systemic versus random errors and formulates sound corrective action and proactive initiative to resolve problems.
You will evaluate, modify or adapt new methods or revise standard techniques to improve or expand sensitivity, specificity, accuracy or precision of testing methodologies.
Travel Required - Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

Have successfully completed a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree from an accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics. (Note - All science and mathematics courses must have been acceptable for credit toward meeting the requirements for a science major at an accredited college or university.) AND have five years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in Blood Banking, Chemistry, Hematology, microbiology, Immunology and Urinalysis/Body Fluids. (Note - Acceptable experience is responsible professional or technician experience in a hospital laboratory, health agency, industrial medical laboratory, or pharmaceutical house; or teaching, test development, or medical research program experience that provided an understanding of the methods and techniques applied in performing professional clinical laboratory work. Certification/licensure as a medical technologist (generalist) obtained through written examination by a nationally recognized credentialing agency or State licensing body is a good indication that the quality of experience is acceptable.) OR
Are currently a federal employee assigned to a Medical Technologist/Clinical Laboratory Scientist 0644 series position as of September 2017.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of clinical laboratory experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Medical Technologist; or I have successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in clinical laboratory science. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: perform specialized and technically microbiology and virology or parasitology tests; analyze microbiology test results or test systems; record results through data entry modes using laboratory information systems or retrieves information from electronic databases; evaluate, modify, or adapt new microbiology methods or revise standard techniques to improve or expand testing methodologies.

You must be certified by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), American Medical Technologists (AMT) or other board of registry deemed comparable by the Center for Clinical Laboratory Medicine (CCLM) as a medical technologist (MT) or medical laboratory scientist (MLS); or be a commissioned laboratory officer in the Military Services, and have earned a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution; and have at least 3 years of laboratory experience in high complexity testing and be certified by the ASCP, AMT or other board of registry deemed comparable by CCLM as an MT or MLS; AND
Meet minimal conditions to be certified under the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Program in accordance with 42 CFR 493.1461.
Must possess a Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers Certification. Failure to possess this certification will result in an ineligible rating. Possession of the factor must be verifiable via your resume or support documents.
