Molloy College seeks an energetic, experienced, and creative individual who will serve as the Associate Dean for the newly created School of Arts & Sciences.
As Molloy College seeks to continue to add value as one of the most affordable private institutions in the region, the founding of the new School of Arts and Sciences plays a major role in its future strategic goals. In line with Molloy College’s Strategic Plan, the new School of Arts and Sciences seeks to address a number of its themes, from responsive education to student success to organizational effectiveness.
Since the College’s founding, Molloy has been educating students to become professionals in their fields of choice, with a strong foundation in the liberal arts and sciences. Creating a School of Arts and Sciences has helped Molloy better achieve the College’s mission. It elevates the academic profile of the liberal arts and sciences by strengthening and redefining the general education core through a closer alignment with the Dominican tradition and by fostering integrative learning.
The Associate Dean will play a critical role in the ongoing transition of the three former Divisions of Humanities, Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences into one unified School.
The Associate Dean will serve in a supporting role to the Founding Dean. Together they are responsible for effective leadership, administrative oversight, resource allocation, and management (including fiscal/ budgetary issues and workload), delivery of instructional programs, oversight of scholarly activities and service, and liaising with units such as the library, as well as the College administration. The Associate Dean will also support efforts to communicate the vision and goals of the School to internal and external constituencies.
PRIMARY ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES
Support diversity and inclusive excellence efforts in School and College.
In consultation with the Dean and his management and leadership teams, assist with strategic planning and provides leadership for school-wide initiatives aligned with the College’s Mission and Vision.
Help the Dean to establish and maintain a professional, positive, collegial, collaborative culture throughout the School.
Assist with management of all School programs, operations, and facilities as needed.
Assist Dean in establishing and maintaining positive internal and external relations with diverse populations and constituencies, including: faculty, staff, students, community partners, alumni, donors, supporters, and external agencies.
Serve as a first line of support for department chairs and all academic departments and programs.
Serve on Deans’ Committees, School-wide committees, and other appropriate committees in Academic Affairs.
Serve as Dean’s representatives on numerous non-academic committees and working groups as per current and future initiatives.
Liaison with other departments and units across the College as necessary.
Effectively represent the School in college-wide and inter-divisional settings as requested and assigned by Dean.
Enforce existing policies and practices in the School and suggest, create, and implement new policies, initiatives, and/or guidelines as needed and appropriate.
Consult with specific Program Directors and Chairs for the hiring of faculty and staff.
Identify opportunities for grants; foster active faculty involvement in research, creative endeavors, and publications.
Convene regular meetings with the departmental academic advisors to provide guidance and support in advising policy.
Assist with New Student Orientation activities and events.
Provide and assist with general enrollment data on majors in academic departments;
Provide support and data pertaining to students on academic probation.
Assist with regular and ongoing coordination between administrative offices (Registrar, Enrollment Management, Campus Solutions, First Year Initiative, etc.) and academic units of Arts and Sciences.
Provide assistance with Advising during registration periods and support for students when faculty advisers in departments are not on campus during intersessions and summer.
Assist academic departments and administrative units in managing transfer students in all academic endeavors.
Assist Registrar and Graduation Office with students in Arts and Sciences on the verge of graduation.
Serve as a backstop point of contact for students in Arts and Sciences when faculty advisors in academic departments are not immediately available.
Work with the Dean in overseeing course schedules for academic departments for the academic year and summer
Maintains enrollment statistics by course for all the departments by semester used for course analysis and comparison and to evaluate enrollment
Responsible for reviewing the departments schedules in light of current enrollment demands and contract and college policy
Works with the Dean, the Director of Experiential Learning, and academic departments to develop internship and other experiential learning opportunities for students in Arts and Sciences departments.
Maintain channels of communication with students.
An earned doctorate from a recognized, accredited university;
Significant administrative experience such as dean, associate dean, department chair, program director or equivalent position;
Academic credentials commensurate with the rank of tenured associate or full professor in the College;
Demonstrated success in promoting diversity;
Successful relationship-building experience;
Demonstrated strong communication skills;
A proven track record of high regard for faculty and a leadership style that ensures the development of a high-performing, cohesive, collegial faculty;
Experience with and appreciation of shared governance;
Successful budget management skills; and,
Experience in hiring, developing, and evaluating personnel in a higher education institution.
Significant and well-developed record of scholarship;
Experience in growing and promoting research within a traditionally teaching-focused institution;
Curriculum and assessment development experience;
Fund raising experience;
Administrative experience in managing graduate and undergraduate programs;
Experience and familiarity with distributed learning models and undergraduate research;
A high level of competency with technology;
A record of innovative problem solving and outcomes-driven leadership; and,
A track record of collaborative relationships both internal and external to the College.
