The Role: Contract Negotiator
Grade ( relevant for internal applicants only ): 09
The Location: New York, NY or Charlottesville, VA
The Team: The S&P Global Ratings team is comprised of legal and non-legal professionals and, among other things, supports the Ratings division's commercial organization, product development/technology functions and business management/leadership.
The Impact: You will be engaged in the fast-paced area of client and vendor contracting, primarily tasked with negotiating and drafting contracts for credit rating and related products, technology product licensing, professional and consulting services, and other vendor arrangements.

Responsibilities:
- Negotiate and draft various contracts such as customer contracts, product licenses, vendor agreements, confidentiality agreements, software licenses, and trial agreements; be well-versed in commonly used alternate provisions and drafting customized contract provisions.
- Liaise with internal and external clients in the contract negotiation process; ensure that sales and business personnel comply with internal policies and procedures.
- Navigate contracts database and other internal systems to obtain information on S&P Global Ratings' contractual relationships.
- Work with management to create efficiencies in the contracting process.
What We're Looking For:
Basic Qualifications:
- Excellent interpersonal skills. You should be people oriented, collegial and comfortable with frequent client-facing interactions (via e-mail, phone and in-person).
- Strong oral/written communication and business writing abilities; able to tailor communications to the audience level
- Ease with working independently and escalating issues as necessary
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to learn new systems and processes quickly
- Capacity to manage multiple priorities
- College degree and at least three years of related experience
- Strong desire to learn
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior paralegal or business/legal affairs department experience
- Solid working knowledge of contract and intellectual property issues.
- Demonstrates and applies a broad knowledge in field of specialization through successful completion of assignments.
