The Virginia Military Institute is accepting applications for its Director of Auxiliary Services. Reporting to the Deputy Superintendent for Finance, Administration, and Support, the Director of Auxiliary Services is responsible for the overall planning, organizing and coordinating the efforts of a broad and dynamic service program including the Institute’s Military Store, Tailor Shop, Laundry, Barbershop, and Postal Services operations. The position also oversees contract operations that include food services and bookstore and is responsible for monitoring vendor performance. The Director of Auxiliary Services plays a key role in the development of and the ongoing review of business strategies for self-sustaining, revenue generating auxiliary enterprises and internal service organizations that comprise the VMI Auxiliary Services Directorate.
A Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field and/or equivalent experience
Purchasing and business operations management experience
Knowledge of accounting, procurement, finance, operations management, and modern management principles and practices
Exceptional oral and written communication skills
Demonstrated ability to plan and direct multiple programs and projects
Strong analytical skills
Significant supervisory experience
Strong customer service skills with diverse groups, such as students, staff, administrators, community leaders and vendors
Military supply system and government contracting experience
Master’s degree in business administration, finance or related field
Knowledge and proficiency with automated purchasing systems
