You will serve as a Supervisory Advanced Practice Nurse (Practitioner/Occupational Health) in the Occupational Health Department of NAVAL HOSPITAL.
This announcement uses the OPM Federal Wide direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
You will supervise and evaluate division personnel including 1 Secretary, 1 Occupational Health LPN, and 1 Occupational Health Tech
You will supervise and evaluate the Preventive Medicine Department
You will investigate, evaluate and prepare reports required by NAVMEDCOM and other commands
You will recognize hazardous exposure and initiate treatment and follow-up
You will provide on sight consultation to PMTs in Groton to include programs such as disease surveillance and outbreak investigation
You will use independent judgment in assessing the individual, the medical condition, the relevant data in the medical record, industrial hygiene reports of the work site
You will utilize Navy and DOD Medical Surveillance Instructions and commercial references, determines the type of medical surveillance physical the employee needs
You will teach occupational medical courses to other health care professionals on a navy side basis including Spirometry, Toxicology, Asbestos, smoking cessation, stress management, x-ray interpretation or pneumoconiosis and wellness

Have successfully completed a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by this position. Areas of specialties for positions include, but are not limited to, Acute Care, Anesthesia, Community Health, Family, Geriatric, Home Health, Midwifery, Neonatal, Oncology, Pediatric, Psychiatric, Allergy and Immunology, Women's Health, Cardiovascular, Dermatology, Occupational Health, Orthopedic, Respiratory, or other specialties identified for the position. AND
Have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. AND
Possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. AND
Possess a permanent, full and unrestricted license or registration as an advanced practice professional nurse issued by a state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Are currently a federal employee assigned to a Nurse, 0610 SERIES position as of September 2017.
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector by leading and managing other; providing nursing care for occupational and non-occupational injuries and illnesses based upon the nursing process inclusive of nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, and standardized medical protocols; recognize hazard exposure and initiate treatment and follow-up; review medical records and physical exams.
Board certification as an Occupational Health Nurse (COHN) by the American Board of Occupational Health Nurses (ABOHN) is desired but not required.
