Develops mentoring relationships with individual student and intervenes to support students at risk.
Supports the residential curriculum by participating in the development and execution of educational plans to advance the department's learning goals.
Supervises, trains, and evaluates the performance of resident assistants and head resident.
Implements strategies for contributing to student retention through academic and personal support programs and direct outreach to students identified as experiencing unique academic, personal, or mental health challenges.
Serves as an integral liaison and partner to the campus Care Coordination Team. Meets with students experiencing concerns or who have been identified as at-risk in order to provide appropriate intervention, guidance, and support.
Participates in after-hours crisis response and assigned on-call duty rotation for all campus housing areas.
Advises hall government, provides training and resources to support student leadership development and student-initiated programs and activities.
Reviews incident reports documenting low-level behavioral matters to determine appropriate resolutions; makes referrals or takes appropriate action.
Participates in the review of building operations in the areas of security, environmental support services, food service and physical facilities.
Other duties as assigned.
Missouri S&T houses approximately 2,000 students in a variety of traditional, suite, and apartment style residence halls. S&T has a two year live-on policy and the residence halls primarily house first and second year students. Residential Life is a department within the Division of Student Affairs.
Resident Directors are significant contributors to the overall student success strategy within the Division of Student Affairs. RDs play a significant role in connecting with individual students and intervening in situations involving students at risk due to mental health concerns, academic challenges, or personal concerns. Successful RDs spend time developing individual relationships with students and serving as mentors to the students in their halls as well as creating and supporting a living environment contributing to student success.
Resident Directors are required to live within 15 minutes of campus due to on-call responsibilities. On-campus living is encouraged and apartments are available for rent.
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable skills and knowledge can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, or related field. Prior experience as a live-in residential life staff member.
