Adelanto Elementary School District (AESD) Board of Trustees announces an opening for the position of District Superintendent and invites well-qualified educators with strong collaborative leadership skills to apply for the position. The Board is seeking a highly skilled and knowledgeable leader to continue the positive academic direction of the district and desires an educational leader that will utilize District staff, Board and community to meet its current challenges. The selected candidate is expected to assume leadership of the District effective July 1, 2020.
Appropriate administrative credential to serve as Superintendent of a K-8 school district
An earned Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university
Desired experience as a classroom teacher, school principal and cabinet level district administrator (e.g. Assistant Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, Associate Superintendent, Superintendent)
Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining productive Board/Superintendent/Staff relations with open two-way communication
Demonstrated ability to provide effective visionary leadership and strategic planning to focus human and material resources towards the primary goal of outstanding student achievement
Record of being a highly visible educational leader within the school district and community
Record of active involvement within the local community
Demonstrated successful experience in working effectively in a multi-cultural community
Record of ability to refine and improve curriculum, instruction, and management strategies by working with and through administrative, teaching and support staff and utilizing their talents and skills
Record of empowerment of administrative and teaching staff to fulfill their areas of responsibility
Record of involvement in positive, cooperative labor relations that is productive for students and perceived as mutually beneficial to certificated, classified, and management personnel
Knowledgeable about District budget process
Demonstration of an unwavering belief in staff and genuine caring for students
Promotes open communication throughout the district and community
Clear demonstration of a strong sense of confidence in oneself and others
Delegates with authority, empowers staff and maintains strong systems of accountability
Confronts problems and takes responsibility for decisions made
Listens and is open to new ideas and divergent opinions
Develops and promotes trust and collaboration between stakeholder groups within the district

Salary and Contract Terms
The Board of Trustees of the Adelanto Elementary School District intends to offer the successful candidate a multi-year contract. The salary and benefit package is competitive and commensurate with training and experience. The terms of the contract are open and negotiable.
The Board of Trustees of Adelanto School District has requested the assistance of the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools office in its search for Superintendent. Dick Bray and Dr. Mitch Hovey, Districts’ Governance Advisors will lead the search process. Applications that are appropriately filed will be screened by a committee of professionals.
Candidates with the highest rankings will be interviewed by the Governing Board. Prior to final selection, the Board may conduct a community visit for the finalist candidate. Board interviews are tentatively scheduled for Saturday, June 13. Community visits are tentatively scheduled for the week of June 15-19.

Adelanto School District serves approximately 8300 students in grades TK-8. The district has 15 schools serving the communities of Adelanto and Victorville. There are nine TK-5 elementary schools, two K-8 schools, three middle schools serving grades 6-8, and one alternative school, Adelanto Virtual Academy (AVA) serving students with high social-emotional needs.
Adelanto is located in the high desert of Southern California near the cities of Victorville, Apple Valley and Hesperia. It is the home of the former George Air Force Base and there are still many former military families in the area. There are 32,000 residents in Adelanto, part of the 335,000 population of the surrounding high desert. Housing throughout the high desert is very affordable.
Nearby are recreational facilities for golf, water skiing, snow skiing, hiking, mountain biking and boating. Also nearby are diverse shopping and dining centers. Adelanto is about 1.5 hours from Disneyland or Palm Springs and 2.5 hours from Las Vegas. It is less than an hour from Lake Arrowhead or Big Bear Lake.
Adelanto has a four-season climate with hot Summers, a mild Spring and Fall, and cool Winters with occasional light snow.
