The AIDS Foundation Chicago (AFC) mobilizes communities to create equity and justice for people living with and vulnerable to HIV or chronic conditions. We are seeking an individual to serve as our Accounting Assistant. The Accounting Assistant is responsible for assisting with the AIDS Foundation Chicago’s (AFC’s) and the Center for Housing and Health’s (CHH’s) accounts payable and check processing.
Principle functions and responsibilities of this position include the following:
Assist in the Accounts Payable processing, distribution, and electronic scanning of documentation into accounting database for:
CHH accounts payables
AFC and CHH rent and utility payments
Other expedited check runs
Assist in the ongoing vendor database entry and cleanup;
Assist in the status updates of cleared checks for AFC bank accounts in accounting database on a monthly basis;
Upload and void checks in the online banking portal;
Place stop payments for voided checks as needed;
Update other accounts payable worksheets as needed.
Assist with agency-wide activities as directed, including Annual Meeting, AIDS Run & Walk, and others;
Protect organization's value and manage risk by keeping information confidential;
Perform other duties as assigned.

One or more years’ experience in Accounting
One or more years’ experience with intermediate Excel
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
1 or more years’ experience with Blackbaud’s Financial Edge

Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects, establish workload priorities, and meet deadlines are critical.
Excellent customer service skills and strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain professional, trusting and positive working relationships with both internal and external customers.
Solid mathematical skills and the ability to acquire and apply new knowledge and skills.
Ability to use various Microsoft Office applications, specifically Excel in order to perform job duties such as creating spreadsheets and responding to e-mail.

Anyone can become infected w...ith HIV, but HIV and related chronic diseases disproportionately impact certain populations in distinct geographic areas. We can have the greatest impact on the HIV epidemic by focusing our efforts on those most-impacted by HIV, based on epidemiological data and unmet need:
• Young Black gay and bisexual men
• Transgender women of color
• Black women living in high-incidence areas
• Latino gay and bisexual men
Factors that drive the HIV epidemic and health inequities that we will address include:
• Sex work
• Drug use
• Lack of access to health care
• Immigration status
AFC will also work to meet the evolving needs of older adults with HIV and long-term survivors.
