Vehicle Flexibility

Beginning in early 2000's, through our "Vehicle Flexibility" (VFlex) initiative, Capital expanded our suite of services beyond mutual funds and institutional mandates to new products such as funds of funds, separately managed accounts, and collective investment trusts in the US, as well as Luxembourg-based funds and segregated accounts to serve investors in Europe and Asia. These products, called Vehicles, deliver Capital's active investment convictions through a systematic portfolio construction process. We're excited that the next step will be to add active ETFs to our VFlex offering in North America.

Vehicle Portfolio Managers

Vehicle Flexibility group comprises of Vehicle Portfolio Managers (VPMs), Vehicle Specialists (VSs) and Quantitative Research Analytics (QRA) and Technology (QRT) associates.

Vehicle Portfolio Managers (VPMs) manage the Vehicle portfolios. They are responsible for ensuring that the Vehicles are faithful representations of Capital active investment strategies and that the results dispersion is minimized. They also represent Vehicles internally to Capital stakeholders, as well as to the external market.

We are excited to seek an experienced Vehicle Portfolio Manager with deep ETF product, market, and distribution expertise to join this new initiative.

Vehicle Portfolio Manager (ETF Focus) - Primary responsibilities

• Deliver the convictions of the Investment Group into Vehicles while minimizing results dispersion.

• Review and approve model designs and back tests, taking into account CG policy and client restrictions. Determine the optimal number of holdings to best represent the strategy while protecting transparency and meeting client needs.
  • Maintain deep understanding of the convictions of the Investment Group and ensure they are reflected in each portfolio.
  • Manage communication with Investment Group Analysts and PMs.
  • Work daily with Vehicle Specialists to review model output for portfolios and approve recommended trades where they align with Investment Group conviction. Manage exceptions where recommended trades are not approved / aligned with conviction.
  • Monitor investment results and dispersion, constantly looking for opportunities to improve the process.

• Be the primary Investment Group point of contact for clients of VFlex.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of what each portfolio holds and ensure that the Vehicle is an appropriate representation of the reference strategy.
  • Work with the Investment Specialists to address client needs and questions around the process, portfolio, or strategy, both during and after the sales process.
  • Present V-Flex investment services at finals and annual review/due diligence meetings with home offices, gate keepers and institutional clients.
• • • Participate in the oversight of the Vehicle Flexibility process within Capital Group.
    • Report to VFlex Investment Committee responsible for governing the overall V-Flex process and expanding our V-Flex capabilities.
• • Provide oversight to Vehicle Specialists

ETF Specific Responsibilities, in addition to the VPM Primary Responsibilities

• Work closely with the Trading and Investment Operations teams to ensure that our ETF products are structured for efficient trading and execute an effective create-redeem basket process.
• Monitor and facilitate interaction with our internal Capital Markets team who will be trading the ETFs in the primary and secondary markets. Liaise if needed with Authorized Participants and Market Makers.

• Engage in internal projects to improve our ETF product and process.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with the sales teams, by providing ongoing training, education, and updates about Capital Group's ETFs. Meet and engage with clients to talk about our ETF products, processes and strategies.

Skills/Qualifications:

• 8+ years of experience in the investment management industry, including extensive experience with ETF's.

• In-depth knowledge of portfolio construction, index or active investment strategy replication, securities and investment business.

• Established thought leader with a strategic and analytical mindset, and a deep understanding of the ETFs. Existing relationships with APs, Market Makers, and other participants on the ETF ecosystem a plus.

• Exhibits knowledge in current and possible internal and external future policies, practices, trends, technology, regulations, and information affecting ETFs, the asset management industry and CG overall. Exhibits knowledge of ETF fundamentals and the factors that drive pricing and liquidity.
• Strong academic credentials including an advanced degree in a quantitative field. A CFA is preferred.
• Intellectual curiosity and analytical skills in areas of high complexity, ambiguity and diversity.
• Ability to collaborate and develop/maintain working relationships inside and outside the organization to enable effective completion of business objectives.
• Sound judgment in resolving complex issues in a practical manner.
• Effective and influential written and oral communication skills with a diverse group of associates and senior business leaders.
