Requisition Number: S_210162 Department: Nebraska Forest Service-0889 Description of Work: Perform a range of maintenance, repair and service activities on heavy equipment in a developing capacity, with minimal technical assistance from experienced-level mechanics. Must possess or obtain Class A Commercial Driver's License and ASE certification within five months of hire. Minimum Required Qualifications: High school education plus relevant coursework or training in automotive maintenance and repair or equivalency. Six months of experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive, military, construction or heavy trucks. Background must demonstrate attention to detail, dependability, initiative, integrity, analytical thinking, and the ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing. Preferred Qualifications: Associate's degree with studies or coursework in equipment programming/logic, machining, vehicle restoration/repair, mechanics, engine rebuilding, fuel systems, construction equipment or related field of study, including military coursework and training. One or more years of experience in the maintenance and repair of automotive, military, construction or heavy trucks. Knowledge of and experience in military, civilian, and commercial vehicle maintenance. Knowledge of fire apparatus. Knowledge of current state and federal laws governing CDL drivers and DOT inspections. Class A Commercial Driver's License and ASE certification. Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and engines; and safety issues in the use of tools, equipment, and supplies used in repair of motorized vehicles and equipment, body and frame construction. Skill in the use of a variety of hand tools, gas and electric welding equipment, mechanized tools, jacks, and hoists, and a variety of diagnostic testing and tuning equipment. Ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical and hydraulic malfunctions, read manuals and schematics, rebuild engines and major driveline components, communicate with other mechanics about repair work needed, enter repair information in fleet maintenance management software, provide training and explain instructions and guidelines to others effectively, organize and coordinate the work of the unit.
