As part of the continued growth of the Legal & Compliance Group in APAC, we are seeking to recruit an experienced lawyer to join the Legal team in Hong Kong. This individual will work with a team of Counsel and other Legal Associates to advise on the legal risk imported by Wellington Management through its activities in private investments in APAC. The role will report to the Capital Markets & Private Investments Counsel, APAC in Hong Kong, and will involve the support of functions located across the globe, as well as collaboration with Legal & Compliance colleagues based in APAC, EMEA and the US.
Responsibilities The primary responsibilities of this role include, among others:
Develop expertise, provide guidance to, and collaborate with privates and investment teams, trading, and operational colleagues to facilitate client participation in a range of investments
Review, negotiate and prepare agreements and other documentation for various types of transactions
Analyze and screen new deal opportunities presented by company's and /or broker-dealers to support the firm's procedures, and assist with other components of the firm's controls around material, non-public information
Coordinate and assist with oversight of legal reviews performed by external providers (e.g., transaction documents, non-disclosure agreements, representation letters)
Synthesize and organize information and create reference tools for use by the Private Investments and / or Capital Markets Legal Team
Collaborate with colleagues located in Boston, London and Hong Kong to carry out, maintain and enhance team processes, record keeping and reference tools
Provide general counsel and advice on regulatory, fiduciary, risk and other issues related to portfolio management
Work with external counsel for deal execution

3+ years prior experience working in a city firm or in-house
Experience in transactional work in equity (private and public), private M&A and/or alternatives
Familiarity with the rules and regulations governing trading and markets is a plus but not required
