The Impact You'll Make in this Role
As a Senior DES Technologist, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Providing technical consulting related to design, fabrication methods, materials of construction, and fabrication tolerancing. This role includes working with designers to ensure equipment designs are optimized for budget and schedule while delivering world-class manufacturing and process equipment.
Assuming responsibility for all phases of the fabrication and assembly of custom designed manufacturing and process equipment installed in 3M operations globally. This role includes the preparation of print packages for competitive bidding, submittal of purchase orders, tracking project progress to meet specification, budget, and schedules.
Assisting 3M sourcing operations and other 3M management organizations in the evaluation of both internal and external fabrication shops to qualify new suppliers and meet 3M supplier continuous improvement programs.
Ensuring 3M proprietary designs are protected via strategic allocation of print packages to internal and external suppliers.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Associate's degree and or two(2) year technical degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Five (5) combined years of machine shop and/or metal fabrication experience
Experience working with project teams and suppliers with diverse backgrounds and experience
Current and Valid Drivers license due to this position may require driving a company vehicle, which will require pre-employment and ongoing review of motor vehicle history for candidates who are offered and hired for this position
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Bachelor's degree in an engineering related field
Experience using computer-based tools to create, track, and publish project reports to assist project engineers, designers, and 3M management to meet program objectives
Experience with precision dimensional measurement equipment and techniques
Experience with NX (Unigraphics) or equivalent solid modeling software
Experience in on-site troubleshooting and commissioning of equipment
Understanding of web handling, coating, drying, and converting processes and equipment
Travel: May include up to 15% domestic
