The Office of Compliance and Audit Services at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a part-time Revenue Cycle Advisor. The successful candidate will:
Be responsible for providing guidance and expertise related to hospital and physician revenue cycle issues.
Read and analyze new laws and regulations to identify key and regulatory changes impacting revenue cycle compliance, including changes reflected in the Inpatient & Outpatient Prospective Payment System rules and Physician Fee Schedules.
Create informational-based narrative to highlight area requiring focus by hospital administration, and to guide and improve revenue cycle processes.
Serve as the expert to provide guidance and direction to senior management related to new proposed business models and payment structures.
Review draft reports prepared by the Documentation & Coding Audit Group to ensure correct interpretation of audit results.
Use knowledge and experience to analyze detailed financial and coding data to identify reimbursement concerns, underlying root causes, and other related issues, as requested by senior management.
Provide some assistance and support to Vice President of Compliance & Audit Services by:
Performing an annual revenue cycle compliance risk assessment for the identification and mitigation of revenue cycle risk and identifying areas to include in the annual compliance & audit work-plan;
Investigating and providing guidance on audits and inquiries brought forward by the internal staff, government agencies and/or commercial payers impacting revenue cycle issues;
Acting in a project management capacity for revenue cycle related initiatives.
Update revenue cycle audit tools and templates, as necessary.
Update revenue cycle training materials, as necessary.
Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 20 years of experience in healthcare regulatory compliance, 15 years of which must be in a State academic medical center setting.
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of healthcare revenue cycle requirements, including Medicare, Medicaid, third party payer coverage and reimbursement practices.
Ability to effectively and accurately analyze healthcare laws and regulation.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
