The Impact You'll Make in this Role
3M is seeking a Hardgoods Product Development Engineer for the Construction and Home Improvement Markets Division (CHIMD) Lab located in St. Paul, MN. CHIMD Lab is home to a few iconic consumer brands, including Command(tm) damage-free hanging solutions, Filtrete(tm) air filters and room air purifiers.
As the Sr. Hardgoods Product Development Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most creative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
Designing, prototyping, and qualifying new hardgoods for consumer market applications as part of the new product introduction process.
Leading/Participating in Consumer Insights testing and translate VOC into feedback for rapid prototyping.
Partnering with the CBG Design Team to deliver functional designs that are on-trend in consumer markets
Leading Design Qualification Matrix for hardgoods and drive product requirements understanding, test methods development and minimum design criteria.
Creating, reviewing, and approving new parts database and injection molding tooling.
Participating in vendor selection for injection molded parts.
Understanding process variability and qualify new processes in partnership with manufacturing function.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
Bachelor's degree or higher from (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
Three (3) years combined laboratory and/or product development experience within a private, public, government or military environment
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution
Proficiency using CAD software
Injection molding and plastic parts design experience
Strong mechanical aptitude and good problem-solving skills
Hardgoods manufacturing experience including experience with Solid Works design software
Experience with simulation and finite element analysis techniques
Additive Manufacturing experience
Project management experience including SCRUM and Agile processes
Proficient in Statistical Analysis
Strong oral and written communication skills, technical presentations, complex problem identification and solution development
Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international
Relocation Assistance: Is authorized
