The City seeks a City Attorney who will be an important part of the City’s leadership team and consistently provide knowledgeable and reliable legal expertise. Serving as the Chief Legal advisor for the 12th largest city in the nation, the City Attorney is appointed by and reports directly to the City Council. The City Attorney is responsible for providing confidential and complex legal advice and executive guidance to the Mayor, City Council, City Manager and all city departments including boards and commissions. Responsible for directing and managing the services and operations of the City’s Legal Department with over 50 full-time employees and a $7m budget, the City Attorney’s office is comprised of two (2) divisions, the Litigation Division and Transactional Division.
The City of Fort Worth seeks a strong leader with a high level of emotional intelligence who is passionate about Fort Worth and its residents and who can work collaboratively and build trust with stakeholders at all levels. The selected individual must hold a Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and must be a competent practicing attorney, duly licensed, and have at least 10 years of experience in municipal law or related government law, including at least five years of supervisory responsibility. A candidate licensed to practice law in the State of Texas who is active and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas is strongly preferred. Possession of a law license from the Supreme Court of Texas and residency within the city limits of Fort Worth is required upon hire.
