The new role of Vice President, Asian Government Affairs is responsible for leading the development and implementation of an Asia advocacy program for Capital Group that integrates internal and external stakeholders to promote the firm's business objectives. The successful candidate must be an effective strategic thinker and tactical implementer with experience in delivering results in government relations, and ideally will have established relationships with relevant policymakers.
Establishing an appropriate Asia advocacy function - including structures to ensure prioritization, coordination, communication, and strategic involvement of senior leaders - in conjunction with the Executive Vice President, Government Affairs.
Creating and executing strategies and plans, together with other members of Capital Group's global Government Affairs team, to achieve the firm's advocacy objectives and enhance the firm's profile in Asia.
Strengthening, building, and maintaining meaningful relationships with relevant Asian policymakers.
Developing, promoting, and managing Capital Group relationships with third parties, including trade associations, industry participants, and think tanks.
Building positive relationships with Capital Group senior leaders to help align the public policy agenda with firm business priorities.
The Vice President, Asian Government Affairs will be based in [Singapore] and reports to the Executive Vice President, Government Affairs, who is based in Washington, D.C.
The ideal candidate will possess a minimum of 10 years' experience in Asian government affairs and public policy, gained through a combination of experience in government service and advocacy roles at other companies or relevant trade associations. The Vice President, Asian Government Affairs will demonstrate strategic capability, business acumen, and strong relationship-building and influencing skills. The successful candidate must be comfortable operating independently and willing to travel frequently within Asia.
The successful candidate also will possess - or manifest a propensity to develop - relationships with key policymakers, and demonstrate the ability to leverage and maximize Capital Group's involvement in coalitions and trade associations. The Vice President, Asian Government Affairs must be comfortable as a public face of Capital Group, and should bring a broad understanding of the financial services industry and its regulatory structures.
In addition to the ability to externally represent Capital Group, the Vice President, Asian Government Affairs must be able to quickly integrate into an organization that possesses a strong and unique culture. The foundation of this culture is respect for individuals' skills, backgrounds, opinions, and contributions to the success of the company. This foundation drives a management process which is communicative and collaborative. Capital Group associates must be able to lead, influence, challenge, and motivate others with a situational and engaging style rather than utilizing traditional directive management techniques.
