The Stewardship Manager, as part of the ESG team, will be expected to demonstrate full knowledge of the Stewardship function. This role is responsible for conducting in-depth proxy research, having a comprehensive knowledge of Capital Group's proxy voting guidelines and providing thought leadership culminating in proxy voting recommendations to the Investment Group (IG). This role is expected to identify and help to define governance priorities and policies, develop thought leadership with the aim of delivering high quality insights into CG's governance and proxy voting process, and lead engagements with internal key stakeholders and portfolio companies on stewardship priorities.
You demonstrate strong-to-expert level knowledge of governance topics, including investment implications, and the core responsibilities of the Stewardship team
You conduct company and sector-level analysis with thought leadership, distill research, and demonstrate expertise with proxy voting guidelines, author recommendations and elevate proxy votes for Analyst review
You lead standalone research efforts on a wide-range of topics
You build credible relationships with the IG and are viewed as a key resource for governance thought leadership
You provide meaningful contributions to GSI research and analysis, as well as aiding in the annual proxy voting guidelines and principles review
You respond to requests from issuers to meet, flag issues which may warrant proactive engagement, partner with the IG and/or the ESG team in preparation of the agenda, and lead/co-facilitate engagement meetings
You keep current with industry, regulatory and economic events and trends to broadly and consistently share knowledge
You demonstrate initiative and a risk awareness mindset to identify key initiatives or innovation opportunities across a broad range of topics, including technology enhancements and operational issues, then leads or partners with senior management and the extended Stewardship leadership team on execution
You are viewed as a leader to represent CG's stewardship perspective internally (i.e. IG, Legal and Compliance, Independent Directors, etc.) and externally (i.e. industry associations, third-party publications, etc.)
You proactively provide coaching and mentorship to less experienced team members
You consistently set the tone, model CG's core values and embody the Leading Capital framework
