Department Summary & Job Purpose: As part of the Division of Student Life, the Office of Student Involvement supports student engagement in co-curricular life, including community-wide programs, campus traditions, student groups and government, and leadership development opportunities.
Working under the direction of the Director of Student Involvement, the Technical and Events Production Manager serves as Production Manager and Student Stage Crew Supervisor overseeing the following core responsibilities: Core Job Duties and Responsibilities: - Assumes primary responsibility for the sound, lighting, rigging, operation of projections and AV systems, and other related operating systems of 2 multi-purpose campus venues (Chapin Auditorium and the Great Room in the Community Center).
- Hires, trains & supervises the student technical/event crew for events in Chapin Auditorium and the Great Room, on campus greens, the Amphitheater, and other student programming spaces.
- Advises and guides student planners in the implementation of details of event design, planning, production, contracting and execution. Provides technical advice for events, including crew scheduling, equipment rental & configuration, facility preparation, and coordination with on-campus departments, outside vendors and service providers for event needs.
- Provides production assistance and direction as needed to students, staff, faculty, and outside venue users of Chapin Auditorium & the Great Room. Supports events with technical operation of sound, lighting, theatrical rigging, and management, including hanging and focusing lights from a ladder and some heavy lifting.
- Coordinates operations of Chapin Auditorium and the Great Room with the Event Services, Media Services, and other campus service providers. Serves the AV, & technical needs of conference clients in Chapin Auditorium & the Great Room, including the training of some conference equipment users. Performs and/or arranges for basic ongoing facility and equipment maintenance, including safety reviews and inspections, as well as inventory and stage gear review and purchasing, in Chapin Auditorium and the Great Room. Works in collaboration with Facilities Management and Media Services.
- Works with the Director of Student Involvement, in coordination with Facilities Management and Media Services, on major venue upkeep facility development, and ensuring safe and accessible spaces. Facilitates major furnishing set ups and restorations to accommodate the turn around of a variety of venue uses.
- Assumes duties as WMHC Chief Operator as prescribed by FCC regulations, including maintenance of the stations FCC 'Public File' and review of WMHC operating logs (PSAs, EAS logs, transmitter power readings & CMJ song entry).
- Supervises student events as needed, including many nights and weekends. Shares this responsibility with other professional staff team members and will work a shifted schedule most weeks during the academic year.

Qualifications: Education and Experience: A Bachelor's degree and experience in a related field is required. Minimum three to five years professional and/or related experience working with high end productions. This person needs extensive technical knowledge of sound, lighting, and or theatrical systems as well as a willingness to further learn and grow technical knowledge and skills. Should have experience teaching others and strong interpersonal skills.
Skills: Technical knowledge of sound, lighting, and or theatrical systems or some combination of those and event production experience.
Strong writing, communication and advising skills, as well as excellent time management skills, superb judgment in planning, supervising, and maintaining safety, and the ability to enforce deadlines and policy.
Ability to work independently, be proactive and to follow through with attention to detail.
Ability to plan, prioritize and oversee multiple projects, meet deadlines for deliverables.
Ability to analyze complex problems and recommend or implement an effective course of action.
Ability to build relationships and influence others. Diplomacy, consistency, compassion and a commitment to inclusivity are essential traits.
Computer literacy is required.
