The Department of Technology Management and Innovation at the NYU Tandon School of Engineering invites applications for a part-time, non-tenured instructor in economics and strategy, with a start date of January 23, 2023.
We invite applicants to teach one or more graduate or undergraduate courses. In particular, we presently seek instructors for the following courses:
MG-GY 6023 - Economics & Strategy
Course Time: Monday or Wednesday 2:00-4:30pm (flexible, can change if required)
This course discusses economic principles that form the building blocks of strategic decision-making to introduce students to the modern strategic management literature. Topics from economic theory include opportunity cost, economic profits, economic systems, demand, supply, pricing, cost structures, economies of scale and scope, bargaining power, market structures, and industry analysis. In addition, the concept of business model design and innovation is introduced as a system of interdependent strategic decisions to study competitive differentiation. Finally, a firm's performance and ability to achieve a sustainable advantage are analyzed using the value creation and appropriation theoretical framework.
MG-GY 8683 - Economics & Strategies for Digital Platforms
Course Time: Flexible (one weekday/week for 2.5 hours)
This course equips students with the economic tools and strategic thinking necessary to understand digital platforms' business models. It covers topics that inform platform strategies, such as two-sided markets, first-mover advantage, network effects, the chicken-or-egg dilemma, monetization strategies, freemium models, intellectual property rights, startup strategy, crowdsourcing, platform governance, regulation, societal aspects of platforms, ways in which platforms are changing competition, and reasons why platforms fail.
You should be an excellent teacher. You should have a graduate degree (terminal preferred) in Economics or a closely related discipline and a record of teaching experience in this area.
