OHSU's Transition to Practice (TTP) Residency Program is designed for recently graduated RNs.

This role is subject to a collective bargaining agreement with the Oregon Nurses Association (ONA).We are hiring multiple positions. The positions will be distributed based on the current amount of knowledge and skills of the other nurses in the unit/departments.

• FTE: 1.0, Full Time
• Shift: Day shift variable
• Shift Length: 10 hours variable
• Start/Stop Times: 0700-1730 variable depending on departmental needs
• Weekend Obligation: Weekend shifts are required based on operational needs of the unit. Max every other weekend.
• Call Obligation: Begins in Perioperatives service 3 months after the transition to independent practice. UBNPC reviews and adjusts call obligation as needed.
• Weekend Call: Each nurse covers one-three 12-hour weekend call shifts in a four-week block schedule. (Average is one)
• Weekday Night Call: Each nurse covers one-three 12-hour night call shifts in a four week schedule. (Average is two)
• Equitable distribution of any call obligation may change based on operational need and established by the UBNPC and the manager.
• Holiday: Work or Call Obligation: Each nurse covers two sometimes three holiday shifts a year, this could either be day or night. This could be a worked shift or call shift. Average one-summer and one-winter holiday.
• Floating Obligation: Begins in perioperative service units 6 months after the transition to independent practice to other perioperative sites.

Successful completion of the TTP program necessitates attendance during all learning activities.

• External Candidates: Vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests up to 24-weeks from the start date are permitted by manager approval prior to start date. All other vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests are subject to compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between ONA and OHSU
• Internal Nurse Candidates: All vacation, paid or unpaid leave requests are subject to compliance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between ONA and OHSU. Pre-scheduled vacations or leave plans must be disclosed before consideration for hire to determine the start date.

Doernbecher Childrens Hospital (DCH) Operating Room, a unit of OHSUs Perioperative Services Division and OHSUs Womens and Childrens Division, is located on the 8th floor of DCH. DCH is opened 24/7 and maintains 7 operating rooms and 2 procedure rooms that primarily address the surgical needs of both inpatient and outpatient pediatric and young adults with congenital conditions ages neonate to 25). Surgical procedure on 25 and above may also be performed. Service lines can include Cardiac/ Thoracic, General Surgery, Gynecology, Oral maxillofacial surgery, Dental, Neurosurgery, Orthopedic, Spine, Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Transplant, Urology, Vascular Surgery, Robotic, Gastrointestinal, and Trauma. Surgical procedures on adults 18 years of age and above are also performed if the procedure requires specialized equipment found only at this location.

DCH inter-operative staff work as integral part of an interdisciplinary care team to provide individualized family centered care for the pediatric and adult congenital patients in the perioperative setting. We provide care for ambulatory, inpatient, and urgent/emergent surgeries. The RN is responsible for assessing and providing direct patient care in both the circulating and scrub roles. The RN provides care consistent with ANA standards, OSBN nurse practice act laws, AORN recommendations, and current evidence based practices. Nurses are responsible for participating in continuous improvements in our unit to increase the value of care we provide our patients. In the shared governance system, the RN is also responsible for helping grow the nursing profession and guiding the future direction of the unit. Minimum Qualifications to be eligible to interview:

Associate or Baccalaureate Degree of Nursing awarded from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA).

Nursing Education:

• Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing Preferred
• Associate Degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire.

Certifications and Licensure:

• Current, unencumbered Oregon RN license by 1 week before start date
• Current BLS certification awarded by the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network branch of AHA by the start date

Department Specific Requirements:

• BLS must not expire during the TTP Program.

Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Individualized Orientation Schedule of 24weeks:

• The intended start date is August 29, 2022 (external & organizational internal transfer)/September 5, 2022 (ONA internal transfer). Note that this date may be adjusted based on operational needs.
• Residency Program and Specialty Fellowship Program Schedule: About 24 weeks.
• Group-based, self-directed, and preceptorship shifts are integrated weekly for up to 40 hours per week.
• Group-based sessions: Monday-Friday variable times 0700-17:30 up to 8hrs per session
• Self-directed shifts: Monday-Friday up to 12hrs per day, variable per week.
• Preceptorship shifts: Assigned based on preceptor team schedules during Monday-Sunday 8, 10, or 12hour shifts starting at 0645, 0845, 1045,1845. Transition to hired shift is based on unit readiness and the completion of group-based sessions.
• Cross Functional orientation to Circulating Nurse and Scrub Nurse role.
