The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine (OSU-CVM) invites applications for the role of (Academic) Director of the Office of Professional Success. This is a full-time faculty position (clinical track) and will be assigned to the appropriate academic department based on the final candidate’s professional background. Applicants must have a commitment to advancing outcomes and evidence based veterinary education, providing excellence and innovation in teaching, leading, modeling and assessing professionalism, collaborative efforts and positive communication. Applicants must have a DVM or equivalent degree and be committed to furthering student success. A Master’s degree and board certification are an asset, but not required. Applicants must have previous experience in private veterinary practice with experience in clinical practice management. Prior academic program administration is also an asset, as well as demonstrated familiarity with clinical teaching, adult education, and assessment.
The successful candidate will join the College of Veterinary Medicine Professional Program team working under the leadership of the Associate Dean for Professional Programs, and alongside the Assistant Dean of Student Success, Director of the Office of Teaching and Learning, and their respective teams. The successful candidate will provide support for the administration and management of a comprehensive professional and communication skills program for students in VME I-IV of the DVM program including overseeing the Office of Professional Success. The Director will be expected to further develop both the professional identity development thread, as well as the communication and collaboration thread in the college’s new outcomes-based curriculum, in accordance with the program benchmarks that have already been identified by faculty. The Director will help coordinate with faculty and staff, as well as nationally recognized content experts to develop and deliver session content and activities. The Director will contribute to the college’s American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) accreditation and strategic planning initiatives related to the implementation and delivery of these key areas. The Director will be expected to foster interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaborations, and pedagogical research, as well as disseminate findings at regional and national meetings.
On behalf of the college, the Director will also provide oversight of the Graduate Minor in Business and Health Sciences in association with the Fisher College of Business, and coordinate with the other health professional programs to help implement interprofessional curriculum elements. The Director will also develop and lead career program planning services for our professional DVM students including several annual large-scale workshops and events, and oversight of employer relations and outreach efforts. The Director will be responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising staff, as well as encouraging their professional development and overseeing performance management. Currently there are three staff members who report to this Director and assist in delivery of the mission of this Office. As part of the college’s career services mission, the Director is expected to participate in representing the OSU-CVM externally to various associations (e.g. CVM Alumni Association, OVMA, AVMA, AAVMC, etc.); engage in professional development to maintain their own competencies and relevancy in regards to employment trends; oversee the collection, analysis, and publication of graduate employment data; as well as manage individual career guidance and counseling functions for all veterinary students. This role also serves as an advisor for the Veterinary Business Management Association, a student organization.
The Director will work with both the Director of Clinical Skills and Spectrum of Care Clinical Educator to help implement skills from the professional development and communications threads into other areas of the curriculum allowing opportunities for practical hands-on application. This includes summer program opportunities that emphasize Spectrum of Care training.
OSU-CVM faculty have implemented an innovative outcomes-based curriculum this fall that will continue to roll out over the next four years. The Veterinary Clinical and Professional Skills Center is a state-of-the-art education and assessment resource, unique in veterinary education that includes almost 9,000 square feet of educational space purpose-built for teaching clinical and communication skills. VCPSC enhances patient care and client satisfaction by allowing students to practice their skills in this simulated environment before entering the workforce. The Frank Stanton Veterinary Spectrum of Care Clinic provides another opportunity for state-of-the-art communications and professional skills training through the use of dedicated observation rooms and specially designed examination rooms that help students practice their client interactions.

Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with education and experience. Faculty rank will be based upon qualifications and experience but is expected to be at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. Final candidates are subject to successful completion of a background check. A drug screen or physical may be required during the post offer process.
