The UR Medicine Department of Surgery is a place where discoveries are made, and the most complex and challenging diseases are cured. Our mission is not only to treat disease, but also to conduct innovative research that enables us to gain a greater understanding of the biological mechanisms of disease, identify new technologies for improved diagnostics and to develop novel surgical approaches.
The Department of Surgery is in search of a Research Program Officer. The Research Program Officer will oversee the administrative and financial efforts for pre and post-award grant funding. The Research Program Officer will work closely with the Research Program Manager on strategic planning and implementation of objectives related to the Department of Surgery’s Research mission.
The Research Program Officer will be responsible for:
Grants Management:
- Collaborates with leadership and Principal Investigators (PI’s) to create and maintain standard language for grant applications for use across divisions.
- Supports PIs in preparing proposal packages and project budgets for grant applications.
Research Administration:
- Manages ongoing and emerging research initiatives for the Department, monitoring grant submission deadlines for new projects and needs for funded projects.
- Reviews and announces Federal (National Institutes of Health - NIH) announcements, Foundation and other funding opportunities that support Surgery’s research mission.
Fiscal Administration:
- In collaboration with a Senior Research Accountant, oversees consistent financial management and reporting.
- For funded grant awards, directs the distribution of funds and provides regular reports to funding agencies.
The successful Research Program Officer will have:
- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years relevant grants or research administration experience.
- Prior experience in higher education, medical sciences research or grants administration preferred.
- Knowledge of the associated reporting guidelines for grant-based funds is beneficial.
- Strong interpersonal, presentation and communication skills.
- Excellent analysis and project management skills.
