Job Description:Massachusetts College of Art and Design seeks outstanding scientists and educators for two full time, tenure-track interdisciplinary positions at the assistant professor level to teach natural sciences and arts-oriented science courses in a newly formed department centered on Integrative Sciences and Biological Arts, launching in September 2023. The new department will provide the sciences/math education component of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design's BFA degree program. Successful candidates will help build an academic program in collaboration with colleagues from art and design disciplines and will bring an interdisciplinary, hands-on, inclusive focus to teaching and research with a strong emphasis on integrating art and science in the curriculum and in public engagement and science communication. Successful candidates will collaboratively contribute to making the future department an innovative hub for Art + Science integration, collaboration, and public engagement at the college and beyond. The successful candidate will have knowledge, experience in, and expertise of general relativity and astrophysics or astronomy. Knowledge of, experience, and expertise in interdisciplinary physics, biophysics, environmental physics, and/or social physics, basic knowledge of music and the physics of music, and a focus on social and societal dimensions are strongly preferred. The successful candidate will integrate mathematics and applied mathematics into the science curriculum. The successful candidate will teach and develop inquiry-based courses on physical sciences and physics (e.g., The Universe, Physics of Music, etc.) and on the candidate's area(s) of expertise and will integrate hands-on scientific methods from their area(s) of expertise into the science curriculum, public engagement, and science communication.2.Integrative Life SciencesMassachusetts College of Art and Design seeks an integrative life scientist for a full-time, tenure-track appointment at the assistant professor level starting fall 2023 in the newly formed department centered on Integrative Sciences and Biological Arts. The successful candidate will have knowledge of, experience, and expertise in at least one of the following areas/fields: community ecology, urban ecology, ecosystem ecology, marine biology/ecology, ecological physiology, microbiology, neuroethology, entomology, botany, and/or genetics. Knowledge of, experience, and expertise in using integrative approaches to study interactions between organisms and their environment, at various biological scales, natural history, and focusing on social and societal dimensions are strongly preferred. Colleges of the Fenway is a collaborative effort of five neighboring Boston-based colleges in the Fenway area. This collaboration was created to add value to student academic and social life while seeking innovative methods of investing in new services and containing the costs of higher education.
