Maumee Valley Country Day School is seeking an individual who puts students at the center of decision-making. The successful candidate is a resourceful and innovative individual who engages in the life of the school and builds relationships across various school constituencies. A good candidate has experience teaching a wide range of student learners and is capable of teaching a varied class load, which may include AP courses.
This position reports to the Head of the Upper School and collaborates closely with all Upper School faculty, as well as the cross-divisional STEM Department. Upper School Math/Science Teacher
A Maumee Valley teacher is a guide who orchestrates learning for students in ways that are engaging, challenging, and relevant. The successful candidate is a resourceful and innovative teacher who uses a range of pedagogical techniques in order to reach all learners. All learners will feel safe, respected, and confident in the environment created by this candidate.
Teach a full load of high school-level courses in the mathematics and science departments
Manage a student load of between 60 and 80 students
Nurture and support an advisee group of between 8 and 12 students
Participate in the life of the school by attending athletic, arts, fundraising, and other events
Chaperone school functions, such as dances and school trips as needed
Participate on committees and task forces as needed
Mentor student clubs and activities as needed
Maintain open lines of communication with students, parents, and colleagues
Skills and Competencies:
Sense of humor and demonstrated success working with teenagers
Ability to teach a range of high school mathematics classes from 9th grade to Advanced Placement
Ability to teach a range of high school physical science classes
Flexible and adaptable
Familiarity with experiential education
Ability to differentiate instruction
Experience developing innovative curricula with a backward design framework, such as Understanding by Design
Ability to collaborate within and between departments to emphasize interdisciplinary learning
Able to maximize the advantages of a technology-rich teaching environment
Credentials:
Experience and training in Modeling Instruction in Physics
Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required; master’s degree, relevant coursework, or relevant professional experience preferred
Experience in teaching high school STEM classes
Faculty: Must be willing and able to secure anOhio Permanent Non-Tax certificateor Professional Teaching license. The school will support you in obtaining this once hired. However, it must be secured within the first six months of employment for compliance purposes.
