SSD serves 2800 students at CSUSB (16%) of the population of students, additionally SSD serves students with temporary accommodations and faculty education. Under general supervision from the Director, this new position of access support specialist will support the counseling and advising work by performing intake appointments, and preparing files and appointments for counselors. The incumbent provides support in quickly providing and assisting students with their SSD paperwork, medical documentation, and quickly putting in place their basic accommodation needs in preparation for their first appointment with a counselor.
Major duties and responsibilities
Intake and Access Support
The incumbent supports SSD and WAiV advising and counseling by providing assistance with intake meetings of new SSD and WAiV students
The incumbent supports SSD and WAiV students with access to services provided by SSD, this is including but not limited too; meeting with student and parents, providing intake packets and collecting necessary documents and signatures from students to create their SSD file in AIM (Access Information Management Software), creating any appointments necessary, training SSD student on accessing the AIM student portal
The incumbent will provide a warm and student friendly environment for each student intake meeting, which includes the outreach to students to come in for their intake meeting and a smooth and warm handoff to next step employees (counselors, accommodation coordinators, or WAiV career coordinators) to ensure that student knows the next step in the process of getting services and support at SSD
The incumbent will work in coordination with Accessibility Coordinator(s) to schedule accommodations needed such as notetaking, cart ride services, and a variety of accommodations that SSD provides students
The incumbent provides training to student assistants on accessibility services, when needed
The incumbent will provide documentation of intakes in the AIM software, and provide reports to Director monthly on quantitative and or qualitative data on intakes and access.
The incumbent will support counselors and advising by auditing and tracking student data in AIM, preparing files when needed, and gathering documentation.
The incumbent will keep secure files for all SSD and WAiV intakes prepared and executed.
The incumbent works in coordination with all staff to make for a seamless transition for SSD students.
The incumbent supports the SSD overall operation by working as a team plan and execute events and gatherings which pertain to SSD students.
The incumbent supports SSD by providing indirect lead direction to student assistants.
Other Duties as Assigned
Contributes to the overall success of SSD by performing other duties as assigned which are within the incumbent's classification.
Attends and participate sin DSA functions as required (e.g., all DSA staff meetings).
The incumbent provides administrative and logistic leadership support for SSD events and programming, as requested by Director.
Minimum Qualifications: Required Education and Experience
Experience: Possession of these knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of one year of experience in professional Student Services work at the entry trainee level. Equivalent amounts of graduate level job-related education may be substituted for the required experience.
Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field
Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
Must have a valid California Driver's License.
Must have reliable transportation to drive between the San Bernardino and Palm Desert Campuses.
Must be able to operate a golf cart and wheelchair accessible van.
Knowledge and Abilities:
Working knowledge of the methods and problems of organization and program management; research and interviewing techniques; principles of individual and group behavior; the ability to rapidly acquire such knowledge of the organization, procedures and activities of the specific campus to which the position is assigned; and the basic principles, practices and major trends in the Student Services field to which assigned.
Ability to rapidly acquire a working knowledge of the specific objectives of the campus Student Services program and its relationship to the total campus operation; interpret and apply program rules and regulations; gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; present clear and concise information orally and in written reports; and establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations and other private and public agencies.
Have experience with ADA, section 504, and working with Students with Disabilities
Have a high degree of sensitivity
Ability to keep up with a fast-paced, environments with diverse personalities and job responsibilities within the office
Compensation and Benefits:
Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,066 - $ 5,752 per month
Classification Salary Range: $4,066 - $ 5,752 per month

Conditions of Employment
Satisfactory completion of a background check (including a criminal records check) is required for employment. Drivers License Check
Possession of a valid Driver's License is required. Employees in this position will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) Government Employer Pull Notice Program which confirms possession of a valid driver's license and reflects driving record.
Employment is contingent upon candidate passing a pre-employment physical exam with the ability to lift in excess of 50 lbs.
