Job Description:

Under the direct supervision of the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM) Executive Dean, the Assistant/Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education will oversee the operations of the Office of Graduate Medical Education. She/he will provide direct supervision of the Designated Institutional Officer. She/he is expected to collaborate with the College of Osteopathic Medicine Executive Dean, Provost's Office, and KCU leadership to ensure alignment of KCU GME programs with the mission of the university. The Assistant/Associate Dean will be responsible for development of a long-range strategic plan KCU GME programs and has primary responsibility to ensure that all KCU GME programs are in full compliance with ACGME standards. She/he will oversee resource allocations for KCU GME programs and will serve as the primary liaison with KCU GME Program Directors and will monitor their performance to ensure compliance with ACGME standards and their respective ACGME Review Committee (RC) requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• This position will be ~20% faculty, ~40% Clinical Service/Research, and ~40% GME administration with some flexibility based on experience
• Facilitate the growth of GME by identifying the need for new residency and fellowship programs
• Establish and sustain GME partnerships with hospitals, clinics and other health care organizations
• Work with the DIO to develop and oversee implementation of policies and procedures for GME programs
• Ensure coordination of all KCU sponsored GME activities to meet ACGME accreditation requirements as well as to fulfill requirements of other accrediting agencies including Joint Commission
• Support the DIO with oversight of the administration of GME programs related to resident policy and procedures, recruitment, orientation, grievance/discipline, and residency contracts
• Oversee execution of program RC applications and reviews
• Monitor program performance by evaluating program performance reports
• Secure the resources for and support the DIO with mentoring and professional development opportunities for program directors through courses, workshops, seminars, and individual coaching
• Oversee all GME fiscal activities and ensure timely budget and financial reporting
• Ensure accurate accounting detail and reporting information
• Have oversight of the review of all reports, both programmatic and fiscal, to ensure contract compliance
• Oversee the preparation, review, and analyze internal and external reports for institutional compliance
• Liaison with other core stakeholders and the university community in regard to GME matters
• Represent the College of Osteopathic Medicine and participate in local, regional and national professional associations and societies related to GME
• Establish priorities and timelines and ensure sufficient resources for resolution of personnel and programmatic problems

Qualifications:

• DO, MD, PhD, or other doctoral degree from an accredited university
• Knowledge of and commitment to the mission of KCU
• Comprehensive knowledge of KCU and COM policy and procedure
• Comprehensive knowledge of ACGME standards and requirements
• Knowledge of concepts and commitment to best practices of shared governance, including the facilitation of faculty and staff involvement, and assurance of personal and department accountability
• Ability to serve as an effective leader and change agent to promote consensus among peers and other senior administrative and program officials
• Strong interpersonal skills and mature judgment sufficient to ensure efficient collaboration and liaison with diverse constituencies at all functional levels
• Ability to motivate, train and supervise others effectively
• Knowledge of concepts and commitment to best practices in student-centered teaching and learning
• Ability to deliver exceptional level of customer service personally and through supervision of department members and program administrators
• Technological proficiency and commitment to the use of technology in the classroom and in the design and delivery of graduate medical education programs and services
• Ability to design, organize, and analyze complex programs and workflow processes
• Ability to work on multiple projects and tasks concurrently while tracking and meeting deadlines
• Strong writing and document assessment abilities, with demonstrated verbal, presentation, and facilitation skills
• Ability to develop a diverse and innovative team and create a productive work environment

Preferred Qualifications:

• A minimum of two years of experience as a senior GME administrator, DIO, or in an equivalent medical education management position
• Leadership experience with demonstrated skill in staff supervision, team building, and personnel and program evaluation
