Job Description Reporting directly to the University Comptroller, the Associate Comptroller for Strategic Financial Initiatives (SFI) manages and leads a portfolio of special projects both within Financial Affairs and in partnership with university academic, administrative, and research departments. The SFI department provides analytical support to the Financial Affairs including preparing financial modeling for the University's federal proposals related to fringe rate and facilities & administration (F&A) rates, analysis used in economic impact surveys, and Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) annual submissions.
Major duties of this position include:
Assists in the oversight and preparation of financial and statistical reports for the Board of Trustees, and state and federal governments.
Develops and implements strategic plans for the department in alignment with Finance & Accounting, Chief Financial Officer, and University strategic goals. Collaborates with the other units under the Comptroller to develop long-range, strategic goals for the unit.
Responsible for the development and coaching of all direct reports, providing managerial oversight analysts as assigned. Ensures high levels of performance, achievement of goals, and quality of results through managers and team members.
Manages a team of analysts that prepare, collect, and interpret financial data to develop financial analyses, projections, short and long-term financial plans, and other reports.
Required Skills
12+ years of direct experience with 8+ years of demonstrated leadership.
Demonstrated working knowledge of non-profit accounting practices, internal controls, and GAAP.
Demonstrated expertise in the use of information technology to solve business and reporting problems; experience creating models.
Proficient in Microsoft products, experience with SAP ERP systems preferred.
Strong relationship-building and communication skills.
Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work (both independently and in conjunction with others) effectively and cooperatively in a small, collegial team environment.
Preferred Skills:
CPA or MBA with accounting focus.
Higher education experience.
