Position Overview
The finance team at ERS is a small but mighty force that relies on partnership and collaboration. Each member brings content expertise and relies on the professional skillsets of each other to service the needs of the organization. The Staff Accountant joining this team should be a self-starter with an eye for continuous improvement. Reporting to the Senior Accountant, this team member will support the Finance Team that oversees the financial operations of the organization with an annual revenue of $16M. A commitment to Learning and Services is integral for success in this role.
Each member of the finance team utilizes their professional expertise within the organization to lead work related to their area of focus/responsibility and implement org-wide initiatives. The right candidate has opportunities for growth both laterally and by building partnerships across the organization with complementary departments or by expanding ownership over related work streams. Professional growth is a high priority of ERS and is something that the finance team takes seriously as they support the professional trajectory of its members.

Responsibilities Payroll & Benefits
Oversee the monthly payroll operations including Health Benefits, Retirement Plans, STD & LTD
Prepare all necessary payroll reports including Workers Compensation & other government required reports
Respond to payroll and benefit inquiries from employees and vendors
Facilitate annual benefit meetings and onboarding trainings with new employees
Assist CFO in negotiations for benefit renewal rates and participate in retirement investment portfolio meetings
Identifies and recommends updates to payroll accounting software, systems, and procedures
General Finance Responsibilities & Support
Preparing journal entries, analyses, and account reconciliations and assisting with monthly close processes
Performing monthly bank and investment account reconciliations
Meeting processing and reporting deadlines
Maintaining financial reports, records, and general ledger accounts
Responding to information requests, reviewing financial statements, and assisting with audits.
Ensuring compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws and best practices
Assisting in the overall Finance and organizational goals
Performing other duties as assigned by the senior accountant

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance required
4+ years of accounting experience, including familiarity with payroll processing and benefits administration/HRIS
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles
Strong numeracy and analytical skills
Demonstrated use of Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Word
Strong problem-solving and time management skills
Highly organized and detail oriented
Abilityto work independently, cooperatively, and proactively as part of a growing, mission-driven team
Strongorganizational skills, interpersonal skills, flexibility, and the ability to prioritize and handle multiple deadline-driven tasks effectively and efficiently
Required: Knowledge of Sage Intacct
Preferred: Familiarity with ADP
