The Associate Director will be a strategic partner providing support and assistance necessary to carrying out and strengthening benefits administration, training, development, resources, and access to HR services, while taking an active role in all personnel matters, including recruitment and selection, retention, classification, wage and salary administration, benefits, staffing and records/reports management. Working closely with the Executive Director of Human Resources and various college-wide departments and their leadership teams, the Associate Director will also develop initiatives and solutions to recruit and retain a high-performing workforce, while ensuring programs meet the needs of employees and focus on supporting the college's mission, vision, strategic goals, and equity agenda.REPORTS TO: Executive Director, Human Resources (EDHR)SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Assigned HR Office StaffSALARY: $95,000 - $120,000 Commensurate with ExperiencePosition is governed by the Non-Unit Personnel Policy Handbook.To be considered for the position, please apply DIRECTLY to the MassArt employment opportunities page: https://massart.interviewexchange.com/static/clients/576MAM1/index.jspESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Responsible for ensuring operational functions of the Human Resource Office are effective, efficient and responsive to the needs of the MassArt community.In collaboration with the Executive Director will oversee and support the work and performance of HR staff, interns and students.In collaboration with the Executive Director of Human Resources, participate in union/management committee meetings as they relate to personnel and staffing matters and as well as managing union grievances and resolving employee conflicts.Conducts, assists, and advises on matters involving investigation into employee misconduct in accordance with applicable laws, policies and collective bargaining agreements.Provides support, oversight and guidance to staff on various employee relations, personnel, benefits, compensation, and recruitment matters.Work with the Executive Director of Human Resources and college management to ensure procedural compliance with collective bargaining agreements, college policies, and procedures.Assist in the management of the recruitment and hiring activities, including posting of vacancies, preparation of advertisements, screening of applications, including proper administration of background check reviews and results for all employees.Working with the Executive Director and the HR team, evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of HR services while developing and implementing services and approaches to continuously improve the quality of deliverables to the College community.Work with the Executive Director of Human Resources to develop and implement strategies, policies and initiatives that align with the strategic priorities of the college.Support the work of the Executive Director of Human Resources to develop and implement professional development, wellness, and required training initiatives, including but not limited to the training classroom, lunch & learns, and various professional development programs for employees.Assists in ensuring the effectiveness of the performance evaluation cycle, including compliance, training, and provision of guidance for managers.Contribute to an employee-oriented, high performance culture that emphasizes equity, empowerment, quality, productivity, goal attainment, and the recruitment and ongoing development of a high-performing workforce.Build productive working relationships across all levels and aspects of the college community.Prepare and/or assist in the preparation of federal, state, and other mandated reports and surveys as needed.Perform other duties as assigned.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCEREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum of a Bachelor's degree.Minimum of five (5) years of human resources management experience.An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience shall be considered.Knowledge of and demonstrated experience in the day to day functioning of a Human Resources OfficeDemonstrated experience in a process improvement/project management role, with a focus on HR-related projects.Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.Demonstrated accomplishment of setting and achieving goals.Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including demonstrated experience making presentations before varied and diverse audiences.Excellent organizational, interpersonal, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 applications and HRIS or applicant tracking applications.Demonstrated ability to be timely with determinations, follow up, resolution and implementation of pending items, requests, or tasks.Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, excel in a fast-paced environment, adapt to organizational change and meet established goals.Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and work independently as required. Demonstrated collaborative leadership style and proficiency in team building.Discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information.The ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty, and staff.Ability to work in a team environment and have a sense of humorPREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Master's degree.Degree in business, human resources, higher education leadership, or other related discipline. Demonstrated experience and a record of success in meeting the operational needs of a human resources office in a higher education environment.Understanding of and commitment to the goals and values of an educational institution.Demonstrated experience in a collective bargaining environment. Demonstrated experience using computer software applications applicable to a higher education environment, such as but not limited to Interview Exchange and/or HR/CMS. Related human resources certifications, which may include but are not limited to SHRM-CP/SCP or PHR.
