The Athletics Communications Coordinator assists in the planning, organization, and oversight of daily operations of the athletic communications. The position serves as the media contact for assigned sports and works to build positive relationships with the public, the press, and electronic media. This role maintains the Athletics Department website and writes website updates, game notes, stories for publication and other communications. This role coordinates and administers multiple media marketing and communications programs consistent with marketing and communications initiatives.

Job Description
Typical duties may include but are not limited to:
Serves as a media liaison to ASUN Conference, NCAA, and visiting athletics staff.
Coordinates and administers multiple media marketing and communications programs that support the University Athletics Programs media strategy and initiatives.
Uncovers and pitches stories to internal and external media outlets to promote FGCU athletics.
Maintains the Athletics Department website and writes website updates, game notes, stories for publication and other communications.
Maintains team and individual athlete statistics in collaboration with the Head Athletics Communications Officer. Ensures accuracy of statistics for all current and past athletic teams, individual athletes, and coaches.
Serves as primary sports information contact for multiple FGCU sports as assigned.
Assists in establishing and implementing policies and procedures within area of assigned responsibility.
Works alongside Head Athletics Communications Officer to host media outlets for home athletic contests. Organizes and supervises required statisticians and table crew/press box staffing for home events.
Monitors production workflow.
Complies with all University and ASUN Conference as well as all NCAA rules and regulations. Remains current with all changes in NCAA, as well as changes to University and ASUN Conference rules and regulations regarding intercollegiate athletics. This includes the requirement for self-reporting any possible rule violations and participation in the annual NCAA continuing education programs including passing the NCAA certification test, if applicable. Any violation of NCAA rules is prohibited and may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Knowledge of marketing principles, including promotion, fundraising, and public relations.
Knowledge of NCAA and ASUN Conference rules and regulations as they pertain to the job duties.
Knowledge of media production, communication, and dissemination techniques and methods, including alternative ways to inform and entertain via written, oral, and visual media.
Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
Skill in public speaking and delivering presentations to individuals and groups.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects within deadlines.
Ability to adapt quickly to changing situations and environments.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization.
Two years of professional full-time experience in marketing, communications, or related field.
Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.
Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
Knowledge of and ability to use AP Style.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with audio or multi-media production, communications or marketing project management, writing, photography, print layout and design, print production, or social media design.
