Baylor University seeks applications for the Department Chair and Professor of Educational Psychology in the School of Education.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The chair of the Department of Educational Psychology functions as its chief academic and administrative officer, overseeing the department's research productivity, educational programming, service engagement, and outreach activity. The chair provides strategic leadership, insightful evaluation, and sound mentoring and professional development for faculty and staff. The chair is responsible for leading the department and enhancing its relationships with other departments in the School of Education and the University at large. As a member of the school's leadership team, the chair reports to the dean of the school.

As such, the chair is responsible for:

• Serving as a collaborative visionary leader who can help move the department forward to advance its national status.
• Strengthen faculty advancement at the community, regional, and national levels to advance Baylor's mission.
• Developing and implementing plans for new programs and initiatives that enhance the department's national recognition for high research activity.
• Promoting professional development, research efforts, and growth among faculty and staff.
• Overseeing course scheduling and instruction.
• Addressing student concerns alongside program directors.
• Administering the department budget.
• Overseeing all department business and supervising office staff.
• Managing department policy formation and implementation.
• Managing personnel matters, including annual performance reviews for faculty and staff.
• Maintaining departmental governance and external communications.

DEPARTMENT: The Department of Educational Psychology (EDP) strives to enrich the community and extend its state and national impact through rigorous academic programs, robust faculty research agendas, and various high-impact research centers and clinics. Accomplished faculty will mentor students to conduct high-quality research and service delivery in areas including exceptionalities, learning and development, school psychology, and quantitative research methods. The EDP department offers a wide array of authentic learning opportunities for both undergraduate and graduate students. At graduate levels, the department offers Ph.D. degrees in Educational Psychology and School Psychology, an Education Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in School Psychology, and master's degrees (M.A., M.S.Ed.) in Educational Psychology with multiple specialization options. Qualifications:
Consistent with Baylors mission to be a world-class institution dedicated to Christian principles and ideals, the qualifications for the position include:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Doctorate in one of the disciplines represented within the department (or a closely related field) with academic credentials sufficient to merit the rank of tenured full professor at a Research 1 institution.
• Ability to advance the Christian mission of Baylor.
• Ability to advance Baylors Academic Strategic Plan, Illuminate, through strategic faculty and staff recruitment, retention, mentoring, and program development.
• Evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level.
• Proven record as an academic leader with relevant administrative experience.
• Nationally recognized program of research with a strong refereed research publication record.
• Strong record of success securing external funding.
• Ability to foster a coherent and unified vision that recognizes excellence and promotes a collegial atmosphere of collaboration, achievement, and service to students, faculty, staff, alumni, and other constituents.
• Commitment to work collaboratively with other School of Education leaders to help advance the school, department, and other individual academic units.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• A proven track record establishing internal and external partnerships and a commitment to collaborative and innovative approaches that advance teaching and research.
• Leadership in national and international professional organizations.
• Previous experience as a chair, program director, associate dean, or other academic leadership positions.

SALARY AND BEGINNING DATE: The salary will be commensurate with qualifications and professional experience. The anticipated date of appointment is for June or July 2024.
