Director of the Cornell Security Initiative, Cornell Tech (NYC)
Position Summary

The Cornell Security Initiative (SI) at Cornell Tech will develop the next generation of programs on digital safety, computer security, and privacy at Cornell Tech. We are seeking an Initiative Director to help bootstrap our effort, and work closely with the dean and faculty to determine the future of computer security work at Cornell Tech.
The Initiative Director will collaborate closely with Dean Greg Morrisett, Prof. Thomas Ristenpart, and other key personnel to explore potential new educational programs which may include security-focused part-time, one-year, or two-year master's programs and/or executive education.

Essential Functions Include:
Oversee the Initiative's planning activities. Create and maintain an Initiative roadmap including planning milestones. - 20%
- Collaborate with the dean, faculty, and other stakeholders to develop long range goals, action plans, strategic and operational planning, and measurement /evaluation processes
- Identify programmatic trends and new opportunities.
- Develop, manage and oversee program budget; ensure that the program meets all grant obligations and reporting duties by established deadlines.
- May assist with recruiting, hiring, and evaluating staff; set office priorities; assure that required activities are accomplished in a timely manner. May supervise student workers
- Develop and oversee the implementation of programmatic policies and procedures.
- Monitor internal and external planning needs and accountability requirements to identify, develop and implement practical solutions.
Engage internal and external stakeholders to obtain input on potential security initiatives. - 20%
- Recommend, develop and design programs and courses with appropriate faculty and staff
- Cultivate and maintain collaborative relationships to promote the incorporation of programs in the Cornell community
Develop potential master's programs, including business analysis. - 20%
- Regularly review program strategic plan and assess effectiveness of the program in achieving it and determine any adjustments needed.
- Provide a cohesive vision and direction for the master's programs
- Oversee and implement the comprehensive development of program models that address needs
- Establish and continually enhance modes of sharing information and using media/technology in educating students; develop and oversee the programmatic policies regarding the use of media technologies.
Participate in development of proposals, whitepapers, and new program initiatives. - 15%
Manage existing security programs and engagement, such as the Google Cyber NYC Institutional Research Program. - 10%
Represent the Security Initiative in a variety of internal and external settings. - 10%
- Collaborate with other Cornell Tech and Cornell University offices as needed to execute on and enhance program goals, including HR, Finance, External Relations, Legal, Events, Academic Affairs, Career Management, and other administrative areas
- Advise and serve as a resource and liaison to leadership, students, faculty, staff, as well as other internal and external stakeholders
- Resolve complex concerns and problems.
Other position-related responsibilities. Participate in projects with occasional work responsibility falling above or below current classification. - 5%
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree and 3-5 years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination, preferably including background in the application of digital technologies (information science, information systems, economics, public policy, business, etc.).
- Experience working in computer security, trust and safety, privacy, or other topic areas.
- Experience in project management in academia, nonprofits, government, or the technology industry.
- Excellent communication skills in writing, meetings, and presentations; and in maintaining relationships with external partners and other stakeholders.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills; proactive approach to work responsibilities.
- Proven ability to navigate both an academic environment and engagement with technology companies and public sector partners.
- Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing
- Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.
