The C.W. Bill Young Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center is recruiting a highly qualified board-certified gynecologist with MIGS training, fellowship preferred. The gynecologist will examine, diagnosis, and medically and surgically treat all routine and complex non-cancerous gynecologic disorders. This includes the clinical outpatient ambulatory setting with the intent to assist with expanding the gynecologic surgical services. To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements (if applicable) listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed physician(s) in VA who met the requirements for appointment under the previous qualification standard at the time of their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements of the occupation. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed. Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training: Physicians must have completed residency training, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. (NOTE: VA physicians involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status.) Approved residencies are: (1) Those approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), b) OR [(2) Those approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA),OR (3) Other residencies (non-US residency training programs followed by a minimum of five years of verified practice in the United States), which the local Medical Staff Executive Committee deems to have provided the applicant with appropriate professional training and believes has exposed the physician to an appropriate range of patient care experiences. Residents currently enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited residency training programs and who would otherwise meet the basic requirements for appointment are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs). PRPs must be fully licensed physicians (i.e., not a training license) and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis. PRPs are not considered independent practitioners and will not be privileged; rather, they are to have a "scope of practice" that allows them to perform certain restricted duties under supervision. Additionally, surgery residents in gap years may also be appointed as PRPs. Proficiency in spoken and written English. Preferred Experience: Board Certified OB-GYN Reference: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-2 Physician Qualification Standard. Physical Requirements: To perform in a fully successful manner, the individual must have the physical ability to perform job-related duties which may require moderate carrying and lifting (15-44 pounds), reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, both hands required, walking (up to 1 hour), standing (up to 1 hour), and both legs required. In addition, there may be exposure to the following environmental factors: working inside and outside, working closely with others, and protracted or irregular hours of work. A health examination must be successfully completed prior to this assignment and periodically thereafter as required by the Occupational Health Clinic policy. Seeking a board certified OBGYN specialized in gynecology services. Other duties included but are not limited to: Perform the full range of gynecologic surgical procedures (laparoscopy and hysteroscopy) and in-office gyn procedures including LARC procedures, vulvar and endometrial biopsy, colposcopy, LEEP, pessary fittings and hysteroscopy. An additional requirement is to be involved in OBGYN residency education and medical student education in the clinical setting. Gynecology provider will supervise OBGYN residents in providing direct patient care in outpatient clinic, inpatient setting, operating room, and provide on-call staffing needs for Gynecology Surgical Service. Provide appropriate care of the patient. Be willing to care for the unique needs of our female veterans which includes special training in PTSD and MST (Military Sexual Trauma). Provider will have assigned OR block time and scheduled clinic times.There will be some traveling to the main campus at Bay Pines for major surgical cases. Administrative duties will be specific to Gynecology /Surgical Service as designated by Chief of Surgery to include preventive medicine, emergency preparedness, completion of all VA required education, to ensure that all activities comply with all Joint Commission and medical center requirements. Responds to patient telephone calls, informs patients of test results, renews medication prescriptions, gives telephone or e-mail advice to other providers, and perform administrative duties. A government laptop will be provided and it is expected that the provider log in from home to respond to messages and review results outside of the tour of duty as needed. Written evaluation of the residents and medical students. Receive feedback from the Chief of Gynecology in the area of teaching and supervision of learners.
