Job Summary: The Department of Dance at SUNY Brockport is seeking a full-time tenure track faculty with expertise in the practice, education, and research of Black American dance and/or African diasporic forms, to join the nationally recognized and diverse faculty and professional staff at SUNY Brockport. This position supports further development of the American vernacular curriculum that serves as the bridge between SUNY Brockport's rich Sankofa traditions and strong contemporary/modern dance legacy. Mentoring graduate student scholars in American vernacular and African diasporic research is also a responsibility of this position. The successful candidate will be called upon to design new and innovative course work, create choreography for student and faculty concerts, build experiential learning experiences within the discipline, connect the campus to the dance community outside of the university and participate in shared governance throughout the campus. Minimum Qualifications:

• Terminal degree in Dance or related field from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education by appointment.
• Ability to teach all levels of jazz dance anchored in the diaspora and championing the Black aesthetic while remaining connected to the jazz dance continuum.
• Ability to teach another diasporic technique such as Tap, Hip Hop, Lindy, House, Caribbean Dance, etc.) Interest and/or ability to teach at least three of the following topics: Choreography/Composition, Undergraduate History, Dance Theory, Kinesiology, Dance and Technology, Dance Film, Pedagogy, Movement Analysis, Dance Conditioning/Health and Wellness for Dance, courses for the graduate program.
• Ability to choreograph and direct department concerts.
• Current scholarly activity at a well-established level.
• Ability to work collaboratively and collegially with the department faculty, staff, and Directors.
  Demonstrate a commitment to working with individuals from a variety of communities and cultures, and encourage diversity in the curriculum, student body, and faculty.

Preferred Qualifications:

• 2 years' experience teaching dance in higher education.
• Experience mentoring undergraduate and graduate student research and/or choreography.
• Professional performance or choreography experience in the field of dance.
• Demonstrated interest in contributing to the evolution of dance curriculum in higher education.

Salary and Benefits: The Minimum Salary for this position is $57,584.
