The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek Associate Professor Faculty to join the Department of Radiation Oncology Academic rank and track commensurate with academic record and experience.
The Center for Cancer Metabolism (CCM) aims to become a world-renowned research center focusing on basic and translational studies regarding cancer metabolism and the development of therapies targeting tumor metabolic pathways. Faculty in the CCM will work closely and apply multidisciplinary technologies (e.g., cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemical biology and pharmacology) to answer the most challenging questions in tumor metabolism.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Center of Cancer Metabolism (CCM) membership: If hired you will be appointed as a full member of the CCM. As such, you are expected to participate in all research and educational services that gear towards building a world class cancer metabolism program. You are expected to be collaborative, collegial and mission-driven to contribute to cultivating a winning culture in the CCM. Your membership in the CCM will be evaluated annually to ensure your full integration into this culture and expectation.
Requirements
These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.
The Department of Radiation Oncology has increased its faculty from 7 to more than 50 and increased its patient volume from ~ 50 patients on treatment/day to upwards of 300 patients on treatment/day, in a span of 14 years. Additionally, there has been a dramatic increase in research funding, where prior to Dr. Chakravartis arrival (pre 2009), there had been zero funded NIH R01 grants to now where the department routinely secures ~$10 million in extramural funding per year, having secured the $100 million United States Health and Human Services grant associated with the Affordable Care Act (ACA) legislation (with Dr. Chakravarti as the lead Radiation Oncology PI), representing the single largest grant in history of Radiation Oncology in the United States and the single largest grant of any kind in the history of The Ohio State University. The Ohio State Department of Radiation Oncology went from the very bottom in NIH funding prior to 2009 to now solidly ranking within or near the Top 10 in NIH funding in Radiation Oncology in the United States, according to NIH reporter data in 2023. Prior to Dr. Chakravartis arrival, Ohio State did not meet the minimum clinical accruals to qualify for full member status in the NCI cooperative group, RTOG (which later became NRG Oncology). Within his first three years, with sharply more robust clinical trials activity, Ohio State became the 37th full voting member of RTOG. Further, in 2022, Ohio State Radiation Oncology rose to #1 in NRG Oncology clinical trials accrual in the United States, according to NCI-CTEP data, keeping up with the increase in clinical volume.

Faculty Defined
Clinical faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with titles of assistant professor-clinical, associate professor-clinical and professor-clinical. These faculty will have earned a doctor of medicine (MD), doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field. Clinical faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of three to five years. They may be reappointed to successive terms. Their principal career focus is the delivery of exemplary clinical care, and may include teaching, and/or research.
Tenure-Track faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD), Doctor of Medicine (MD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Their primary career focus centers on research, service, and teaching. Tenure-track faculty with MD or MD/PhD degrees may also be involved in clinical care.
Research Faculty (regardless of rank) - Persons with the titles of research assistant professor, research associate professor, or research professor. These faculty will have earned a doctorate (PhD) or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study. Research faculty members are not eligible for tenure and are appointed for terms of one to five years. Their principal career focus is research.
