White River Junction VA Healthcare System PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program builds upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and provides an environment conducive to the growth and development of clinical pharmacist practitioners able to provide responsible planning and management of medication-related patient care. The program affords the pharmacy resident with mentorship, guidance, motivation and opportunity to ensure optimal patient outcomes and produce confident, self-directed learners who are eligible for board certification, postgraduate year two (PGY2) pharmacy residency training and employment as clinical pharmacist practitioners.
The mission of the WRJ VA HCS PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Program is to assist residents in transition from entry-level practitioners to advanced or specialty-trained practitioners in the healthcare system environment and to become professionals who optimize medication use for individual patients and patient populations. The residency program and its members also support the VA Pharmacy mission of providing the highest quality of comprehensive pharmacy services to Veterans, including rural and underserved Veteran populations, as experts in medication use across a continuum of services.

The White River Junction VA Healthcare System is a teaching facility that includes an inpatient facility with 74 beds for primary, secondary, and specialty care, a 47,000-square-foot research building, an ambulatory care facility, and buildings for clinical and administrative support. Our campus sits on 64 acres of a hillside setting in the Upper Connecticut River Valley. We are one of the leading health care systems serving Veterans in the VA New England Healthcare System. We provide health care services to approximately 75,000 veterans across 8 locations in Vermont and northwestern New Hampshire. Facilities include our White River Junction VA Medical Center and 7 community-based outpatient clinics in Bennington, Brattleboro, Burlington, Newport, and Rutland, Vermont; and Keene and Littleton, New Hampshire.
