The Naval Postgraduate School invites applications for a faculty position as a Faculty Associate-Research (AD-5) in the Energy Academic Group (EAG). This position will be non-tenure track. The position will work with a variety of disciplines across NPS, the Department of the Navy (DON) and Department of Defense (DoD) and conduct research on priorities in science and technology related to operational energy security, energy resilience and climate security. The position is also expected to support the development of relevant curricular material for the education of future DON and DoD leadership.
The mission of the Energy Academic Group is to assemble and maintain an interdisciplinary group of NPS faculty and staff that provide coordination and awareness of the group’s energy activities at NPS to include education, research, and outreach. This position sits within the EAG Climate Security Pillar.

MinimumQualifications:
An earned graduate degree in a discipline that supports the operational energy and energy security research line;
Extensive background and knowledge in energy security and a record of conducting scientific research involving new or emerging technologies or principles;
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team, leading and supporting project efforts and working with student researchers; and,
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
An earned graduate degree, preferably in an area that is related to the research program, such as operational energy and energy security.
Candidates should have relevant experience, within industry, government, higher education, or non-profit organizations in executing research, developing and delivering programs and curricular material in the areas of energy security. Relevant experience would include:
Conducting research on topics at the intersection of operational energy and shore energy for the Navy;
Engaging DoD and DON leadership to identify energy security research and technology needs and developing partnerships to align NPS efforts with warfighting requirements;
Analyses of future/advanced energy technologies and climate mitigation concepts and applications for defense systems, to include hydrogen, low-carbon renewable fuels, batteries, and advanced nuclear;
Analyses of impacts of climate change on energy supply and availability, operations, installations, platforms, and systems; and,
Supporting efforts to integrate energy security and climate security into curricula and designated training and education programs.
Candidates must provide evidence that they have the capability of executing research, developing and delivering programs and curricular material, and publishing and presenting in the areas of operational energy, climate and national security and energy supply and availability.
Candidates must show experience in building partnerships among diverse disciplines and professions.
Graduate-level teaching or professional training experience in classroom and/or virtually.
