Job Description: Syracuse University seeks a highly accomplished leader to serve as Chair of the Sport Management Department, tenurable at the full professor rank, in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics beginning in the Fall 2025 semester. The College will soon be transitioned to the Falk College of Sport, reflecting Syracuse University's strategic emphasis on sport as a primary focus of interdisciplinary scholarship, teaching, and student experiences across campus. Candidates are encouraged to consider this position a unique opportunity to contribute to the overall college strategic plan and lead the growth and development of an aspirational department in a growing and dynamic field.
The Department of Sport Management comprises 20 tenured, tenure-track, and full-time teaching faculty, and seven staff members, serving over 600 undergraduate majors and a growing graduate student population. The Department of Sport Management offers a B.S. degree in Sport Management, dual B.S. in Management and Sport Management, a B.S. in Sport Analytics, a B.S. in Esports Communications and Management, a CAS in Sport Analytics, and an online M.S. in Sport Analytics.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in Sport Management or a related field.
Job Specific Qualifications: Record of excellence in research, external funding, and teaching. Demonstrated ability to provide administrative and fiscal leadership. The communication and cross-cultural competencies to maximize effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members. Must be tenurable as a full professor.
Responsibilities: Academic and strategic leadership of the Sport Management Department, reporting to the Dean of Falk College Manage and lead faculty and staff in the department Oversee the promotion and tenure process for the department as well as faculty and staff annual reviews Support recruitment efforts at both the undergraduate and graduate levels Implement Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) initiatives Maintain regular meeting schedules with faculty and staff and be available for faculty/staff support and assistance Oversee curriculum design, advising, operations, budget, and day-to-day management Offer student support and assistance as needed Facilitate part-time faculty recruiting and hiring Teach according to department needs and in the successful candidate's area of expertise
