Job Description: The David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics at Syracuse University seeks a highly accomplished faculty leader, tenurable at the full professor rank, to envision, start, and manage a new high-impact research institute focused on innovation in sport. The College will soon be transitioned to the Falk College of Sport, reflecting Syracuse University's strategic emphasis on sport as a primary focus of interdisciplinary scholarship, academic programs, and student experiences across campus. Outstanding faculty candidates will assist with the development and oversight of an institute that will drive research excellence and innovation in sport and health outcomes, and integrate expertise in sport business, digital media, and technology, among other areas of academic focus. Included in this effort will be a plan for the integration of existing and new Ph.D. programs into the research activities of the institute. As Director, the faculty member will also foster industry-based connections and partnerships to help solve pressing industry challenges and provide a platform to share the most current research findings in sport.
Qualifications: An earned Ph.D. and an outstanding scholarly record of extramurally funded research in one or more of the research institute's areas of emphasis: sport business, human performance across the lifespan, sport technology and innovation or community sport and wellness.
Job Specific Qualifications: Substantial collaborations and research experience working with industry partners. Demonstrated success in securing research funding from corporate partners, the federal government, and foundationsExperience with doctoral programs and supervision of PhD students with demonstrated success in placement and career outcomesA demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion in the Institute's operation and funding allocations. The faculty member should be tenurable at the Full Professor level.
Responsibilities: Assist in the development and lead a new research institute focused on innovation in sport, in collaboration with the Dean of Falk College, its faculty, and other University partnersIntegrate PhD students (new and existing) into the research activities of the newly formed research institute Teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels based on expertise and needFacilitate industry-based connections and partnerships to catalyze innovation in the form of research opportunities for students and faculty, consulting projects to solve pressing industry-related and societal challenges, and knowledge translation. Promote and share Institute work with external partnersDevelop an Institute strategy and long-term funding plan with the Dean of Falk College and its leadership team, including Department Chairs.
