The Digital Accessibility Specialist will help to promote a culture of digital accessibility across Syracuse University by educating the campus community and providing resources for creating accessible digital content. This role will focus on empowering the community to apply accessibility principles when designing and delivering digital experiences, including documents, videos, websites and other media. The ideal candidate will have a working knowledge of how people with disabilities navigate and access digital content using native and third-party assistive technologies on desktop and mobile platforms. They will collaborate with cross-functional teams to incorporate accessibility at each stage of the digital content lifecycle and provide expert guidance in inclusive design.

Responsibilities:
Identify and consult with the campus community on training programs that can be used to improve digital accessibility design, build, and evaluation skills.
Maintain and develop a repository of targeted and consumable digital accessibility resources for our campus community.
Serve as a subject matter expert for digital accessibility, providing consultation and training to internal teams; including developers, designers, content creators, and leadership; as well as campus units and organizations.
Topics include accessibility best practices, available tools and assistive technology solutions, and legal requirements.
Work closely with internal ITS units, including the ITS Contracts team, as well as a network of Digital Accessibility Liaisons, Purchasing, Legal, and other campus partners to assist in the evaluation and procurement of accessible technologies consistent with the University's Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Accessibility Policy.
Support efforts to compel vendor remediation of accessibility barriers addressed by the campus community.
As appropriate, conduct accessibility testing of digital products using assistive technologies and other tools to ascertain a product's state of accessibility and conformance level with WCAG 2.1 AA success criteria.
Contribute towards the future vision of digital accessibility at Syracuse University through partnerships and collaboration with key stakeholders.
Participate in cross-organizational committees and councils in serving as a subject matter expert for digital accessibility.
Engage with external stakeholders and participate in cross-industry accessibility communities, keeping abreast of changes in the legal landscape as well as tends in higher education and among our peer institutions.
