To safely install, operate, and maintain the distribution facilities within the assigned service area in such a manner that meets the established standards and reflects the most efficient utilization of construction and operation methods, techniques, and equipment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Assigned based on the successful candidate's level of training and experience.
Will include types of work involved with the installation, maintenance, operation, removal, and inspection of electrical distribution lines and facilities, which includes substations.
Safety is a top priority. Therefore, the successful candidate will have demonstrated safe work practices, exceptional communication skills, and be committed to playing an active role in safety.
Performs diverse work erecting, repairing, and operating distribution and transmission facilities.
Works on energized lines, structures, and equipment involving electricity distribution.
Exercises professionally when dealing with members, other employees, and the public.
Assists in achieving safety accreditation by maintaining a safe and clean work environment and adhering to safety policies, procedures, and government regulations.
Assist as needed in keeping the warehouse/material storage areas and vehicles neat and clean and completing all required documentation promptly.
Provide support during major outages as directed.
Promote an environment that encourages team building by assisting other employees with the completion of their responsibilities.
Perform bucket and pole top rescue.
Gather tools and supplies to be used at the work site.
Familiar with the proper use, care, and storage of hot line tools, rubber gloves, and all other protective equipment.
Operate company radio.
Read maps, specification books, and work orders.
Respond to customer, regulatory, or management inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
Operate trucks pulling trailers, operate winch in handling poles and transformers, and transport employees and equipment to and from work locations.
Report promptly for duty in the event of an emergency or outage.
Identify primary, secondary, street lighting, sub-transmission, telephone, and CATV wires.
Subject to random drug and alcohol testing consistent with DOT regulation and within company policies.
Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Must possess a high school degree or equivalent
Journeyman Line Worker certification
Must successfully complete a pre-assessment verifying Journeyman Line Worker status as determined by the cooperative
Valid Class A, Commercial Driver’s License, and a current Department of Transportation Medical Examiners Certificate
Successfully pass a background check, drug/alcohol test and pre-employment physical
Special Requirements
The candidate will be required to reside within 15 miles of the Lorain Medina Electric Cooperative office located in Spencer Ohio and be available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for scheduled or unscheduled assignments.
Job Knowledge
Knowledge of distribution system operations, system layout, National Electric Safety Code, and safe working practices is required. Must understand and know how to use computer applications. Must be knowledgeable about transportation and power-operated equipment and regulations.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Work is both in a controlled environment and outside in extreme temperatures (0 to 100 degrees F), in ice, snow, rain, sun, high humidity, etc. Must be able to walk a mile over uneven terrain, jump ditches, and any other requirement associated with power line construction and right-of-way clearing to observe work. Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

We maintain about 1,800 miles of underground and overhead lines as well as 11 substations and one metering point. Incorporated in 1936, North Central Electric has been serving the area for over 75 years.
Lorain-Medina Rural Electric Cooperative is an electric distribution cooperative serving the needs of about 16,000 consumers in Ashland, Huron, Lorain, Medina and Wayne counties in northeast Ohio. We maintain about 1,500 miles of underground and overhead lines as well as 15 substations. Founded in 1935, Lorain-Medina Rural Electric has been serving the area for over 75 years.
