Job Description:
The Assistant Director is responsible for the development of the residential learning curriculum for approximately 8,000 students in university housing and 12,000 students residing in off campus housing.The Assistant Director will develop and implement departmental initiatives related to residential learning and assessment. This includes furthering partnerships across the campus and the Division to support student growth and development, The Assistant Director also will develop and implement the department's assessment plan and coordinate initiatives related to the plan, which includes conducting assessment projects, disseminating the findings, and training Student Living staff on assessment practices.The Assistant Director directly supervises a graduate assistant. This role is a live-on position. As such, the Assistant Director is expected to work some evenings and weekends due to commitments related to staff training and oversight of initiatives in the department's. Moreover, the Assistant Director is expected to serve in the Division of Student Experience's on-call rotation and may be asked to represent the department in crisis situations involving students, parents, and supporters.

Responsibilities:

• Design, facilitate, and assess the daily operations of a developmentally sequential and appropriate curriculum that reflects current scholarship about first, second, third- and fourth-year students.
• Collaborate with professional and graduate staff to design, facilitate, assess, and implement residential curriculum activities that support student growth and development.
• Train all Student Living staff on the use of department software tracking student engagement.
• Direct, develop, and implement all assessment efforts within Student Living.
• Chair Student Living's Curricular Learning and Development Committee and workgroups as needed.
• Direct the development and implementation of the annual assessment plan; creates a yearly outline and timeline of planned projects.
• Develop reports and presentations as requested by departmental leadership.
• Develop and implement an assessment marketing and communications plan; ensures assessment findings are disseminated to stakeholders.
• Utilize assessment data to inform strategic planning and decision making.
• Provide educational training sessions for Student Living staff on topics, strategies, tools and resources that improve their understanding of assessment and ability to incorporate assessment practices into their work.
• Partner with the Director of Living Learning Programs and their staff to ensure alignment between the learning goals, outcomes and initiatives for Living Learning Communities and Student Living's residential curriculum.
• Establish and maintain partnerships with the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, the divisional coordinator for assessment, and other departments, as needed, to support academic engagement goals.
• Collaborate with University assessment coordinators to ensure departmental assessment activities are properly aligned with divisional and university goals.
• Provide direct supervision of a graduate assistant.
• Conduct weekly one on one meetings and collective meetings with staff to provide updates and information pertinent to their roles and address topics related to the implementation of the department's Playbook.
• Provide training and professional development opportunities for direct reports, as needed, for their continued growth and development in their roles.
• Address performance management issues that may be impeding progress for direct reports. Conducts staff performance appraisals as determined by the department.
• Provide indirect supervision to Student Living staff as it pertains to assessment initiatives, tasks, and responsibilities.
• Serve in the Tier-2 on-call rotation. Provide support and coordination to the on-call Tier One staff (RDs) for all residential students (8,000 students) as well as coordinating support for off-campus residential students as needed (12,000 students).
• Follow up with students of concern in both crisis and non-crisis situations in a caring, timely and effective manner. Utilize Orange Success to identify and respond to students.
• Respond to inquiries and questions from parents, families, and supporters; partner with students, parents, families, and supporters to address crisis situations.
• Partner with various offices to provide appropriate support and referral to students.
