Job Description:
The Medical Billing Coordinator is a member of a team of clinic and departmental staff that support the Gebbie Speech, Language, and Hearing Clinic and Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders by providing operational support and general assistance to faculty, staff, students, and clients. Duties include medical billing, client support and customer service, reporting on clinic revenues and other metrics, and general tasks in support of daily clinic and departmental operations. The Medical Billing Coordinator is present in the office to provide services to campus and clinic constituents. This position is part of a bargaining unit and is represented by the union SEIU, Local 200United.
Education and Experience:
Associates degree and two (2) plus years of medical insurance experience preferred. High School diploma may be acceptable with sufficient experience.
Skills and Knowledge:
Extensive knowledge and experience with medical office or insurance billing is highly preferred.
Excellent customer service/phone skills and attention to detail are essential.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Solid interpersonal skills.
Good organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task in a fast-pace professional environment.
Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with sensitive information.
Responsibilities:
Manage all medical insurance billing; verify patient insurance eligibility, get prior authorizations to patient visits.
Bill insurance for patient visits after services have been rendered.
Work in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system to manage and process patient billing information.
Post insurance and other payments to client accounts.
Manage county Committee Preschool Special Education billing.
Assist in establishment of new insurance providers as requested.
Report status of medical billing and accounts to faculty during monthly budget meetings.
CAQH Credentialing for Clinic service providers
Ensure accuracy of client account balances in the EMR system.
Reconcile client accounts monthly to ensure they are accurate up to date, reflecting insurance payments, copays, and reimbursements.
Communicate with clients to explain approvals/ denials, insurance benefits, and out-of-pocket expense prior to appointments.
Provide excellent customer service.
Renew liability insurance for all clinic providers.
Generate hearing aid revenue reports monthly or more often as requested.
Communicate client issues to faculty and supervisory staff as needed; escalate decisions beyond the scope of the role.
Prepare reports and participate in monthly budget meetings.
Cover the clinic desk as needed.
Collect copayments.
Verify and collect patient responsibility for hearing aids.
Answer phones and schedule patient appointments.
Cover clinic desk outside of regular working hours as needed.
Work as a member of department staff supporting departmental and clinic needs as requested.
Adapt and retool as campus business processes develop over time and, as a result, assignments are reviewed and revised.
Other duties as assigned.
