Terrestrial Invasive Species Program Manager Hobart William Smith Colleges

Description This position will play a critical role in protecting the Finger Lakes region. The Terrestrial Invasive Species (TIS) Program Manager will develop and administer programs to support the goals of the Finger Lakes Institute (FLI) and Finger Lakes Partnership for Regional Invasive Species Management. TIS programs will address the prevention, monitoring, and treatment of terrestrial invasive species across the 17-county Finger Lakes PRISM region in New York. This position will serve as a regional expert in TIS by providing technical and scientific support to local, regional, and statewide partners. An ideal applicant has a strong scientific background and can synergize Finger Lakes PRISM programming with regional and statewide priorities and efforts. Applicants should be able to identify relevant TIS issues and subsequently collect, manage, analyze, and interpret data to address those issues. This position will work closely with other Finger Lakes PRISM and statewide staff as well as with the Finger Lakes Institute (FLI) to deliver multidisciplinary, integrated programming that benefits the Finger Lakes Watershed.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage fieldwork efforts of at least two seasonal technicians
Develop and supervise projects addressing regional priorities including ecological surveys, chemical and mechanical treatment, and restoration
Analyze and evaluate program data to support adaptive approaches for TIS management
Collect and report data to address the PRISM workplan including providing regular updates to partners regionally and statewide
Attend local, regional, and statewide meetings to coordinate TIS efforts with diverse partners
Manage, implement, and report for grants and contracts held by Hobart and William Smith Colleges that support TIS management
Support TIS education and outreach efforts, including community and technical workshops, trainings, tabling, and more
Coordinate program efforts with FLI staff
OTHER INFORMATION
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position. The position is based out of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, in the heart of the Finger Lakes. The Finger Lakes PRISM is one of eight PRISMs supported via funding from the New York State Environmental Protection Fund as administered by NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation. This position offers a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement contributions, and paid time off. Salary is $60,405.
Qualifications MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in an environmental- or conservation-related field, master's degree preferred
Understanding of current issues surrounding invasive species
Ability to use data to communicate findings and implications through presentations, social media, and authored materials including technical reports to broad audiences including the public, industry professionals, government and agency officials, and scientists
Experience with timely planning, budgeting and reporting for field-based programs and projects
Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow timelines
Ability to work in groups and across fields effectively
Familiarity with tools including ArcGIS products and MS Office suite; experience preferred
Familiarity with statistical and analytical methods and tools such as R and Python; experience preferred
