The Role
The City Manager serves as the Chief Administrative Officer, appointed by the Mayor and Council. This leader will oversee day-to-day operations of all municipal departments and work directly with elected officials to implement the city's strategic vision.
Key Responsibilities:
Administer all city functions with integrity, transparency, and efficiency
Prepare and manage the city’s annual operating budget
Lead capital improvement projects and infrastructure upgrades
Cultivate relationships with residents, stakeholders, and regional partners
Supervise department heads and guide city staff development
Secure funding through grants and intergovernmental initiatives
Ideal Candidate
We’re looking for a results-driven leader who values community, inspires excellence, and believes in the power of public service. The ideal candidate will be collaborative, communicative, and have a strong track record of municipal or public sector management.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Political Science, Business, or related field
(Master’s preferred)
Minimum of 5 years of municipal or executive leadership experience
Strong skills in budgeting, operations, staff management, economic development, and engineering
Knowledge of Maryland municipal law is a plus
Must establish residency within 30 miles of Pocomoke City within 45 days of hire
Compensation & Benefits
Starting salary: $100,000+, commensurate with experience
